Anthony, you have an Ulty and an Edge? Sounds like you're going to have a killer fleet this year!

Yes, bought both the 36% Edge, the 37% Ultimate and the mini Yak. It is great to hear how well they are, that was one of the factors that lead me to buy all PAU. Never heard anything bad about the plane or the company. I have always received excellent service and quick responses when ever I needed it.

Well, started back at the build yesterday. I now have all the control surfaces mounted and the servos in place.
What servo are length are you guys using and what length on the control horn?
Will be working on it again this evening, planning on getting the wings mounted with the flying wires and the engine firewall glued in place.
More snow today....they were calling for 10 to 20 cm (4 to 8 in) and possible freezing rain, but they changed the forcast and are only calling for some snow now. So it has started to snow now, will see how much we get.

Well, finished what I had planned on doing (previous post). I had to make the openings for the servos a little longer in all of them and in a few had to trim a bit off the sides of the openings. For the elevator servos, I had to add a thin piece of lite ply to keep the servo bottoming out. I have 1.5" servo arms but will be using the 1.25" holes with 1.5" length on the control horn pivot from the hinge line. For the flying wires I used the cable that came with the Du-Bro Pull Pull HD system and the brass connectors that came with the package. I drilled a small hole in the top of the brass connectors and soldered the wire in place, seem to work well but did have trouble with one getting a good solder. I will see how they hold up after the first flight. Also with the flying wires, I decided not to use the bolt on method of the wing struts. Instead I removed the blind nut, cut a nail to length needed and drilled a hole in it to fit the pin of the clevises. I was looking for a way to get away from that setup task, this should make it a little quicker.

If the flying wires are functional, I would put a piece of fuel tubing on the clevis to keep it in place due to vibration. Would hate to see the wings fold on that beautiful plane. Looks good.

As far as I know they are functional although I have heard of some not using them. It sure supports the wings so that they do not move very much compared to without them. Thanks for the reminder, I do plan on putting tubing on the clevis just never did it for the pics. Thanks for the feedback, I would hate for the wings to fold as well.

The assembly time at the field makes hardly any difference with or without the flying wires: you still have to install the struts, which are held in place by the same screws that hold the flying wires in place. The fuse side of the flying wires stay in place, and do not need to be removed after flying. I personally coil them up and strap them onto the cabane with a piece of velcro when I am done flying.
The flying wires are indeed functional. I too have read in an earlier post that some one had done some mild flying around without the flying wires, but this is definitely not recommended.

I agree that the flying wires should be used, it made a difference in the support it made on the wings compared to without them. This plane is just too nice to fly without and risk the wings folding up. By the small change I made, the only time saving would be the time it takes to install the small screws that hold the struts in place and the flying wires connect to.

Well I got the motor (DL100) mounted and cowl in place. I used the template (DA100) in the manual for the PAU 36% Edge 540, the offset line came out at 10 mm from the center line. 7/8" spacer for the motor mount. I have both the NoLimitz FG 4.5" Silver Ultimate and Extra spinner, I perfer the look of the Ultimate one on this plane. I will be painting the firewall to fuel proof it over the next few days and maybe some baffels. 6 days off coming up, so I should have it completed by the end of them.

It is looking a lot more like one. LOL. Trying to take my time so that I don't have them all done and still waiting months before the maidens. There is lots of snow here, but it is starting to go fast.

I've got to get working on mine to get it done. Still only done 1 elevator.

Ryan has sold me on sending my cowl in for some custom paint though similar to his Edge. Not sure what yet but I'll send my designs to the guy and see if he has any ideas and what he needs from me.
