Sorry your having these overheating problems. I do not have an on board temp monitor so temps in flight and hovering are unknown to me. What prop are you running on that motor? Perhaps it's loading up the motor and getting hot. I know temps in the mid 200's are not uncommon upon landing so higher temps while hovering will be higher. Ken |

After talking to a local aircraft mechanic about cooling etc., he suggested that the slant on the bottom of the cowl might be preventing hot air from leaving the cowl instead of helping. When it's in a harrier the slant isn't a slant at all. Its a effective scoop for air to enter at high AOA or at least block the airflow "thru" the cowl for cooling. He suggested a few things such as a servo operated "flap" to reverse the airflow when at high AOA however, none of his options seem possible.
About the "overheating" issue, I'm not exactly sure at what temp is considered overheating. The engine has always run perfectly. Even at the 320-330 degree range. The only way I know its hot, is from the Eagle Tree system. Perhaps not knowing whats going on is better than trying to resolve a problem that may not be that much of a problem at all. I'm going to try to make a fiberglass, two piece duct, molded to the engines cylinders, after cutting the cowl in half, to see if that will help. If it doesnt, I'll be able to tell everyone at what temp a BME will self dectruct. LOL ![]() As you stated before, The engine has incredible power in this airframe, and it flys great. I would just like to find a way to make it (the engine) last. BF Last edited by Bat Fastard; 01-27-2008 at 07:58 PM. Reason: incomplete |

Hey! Sorry for the late reply, I had the notifications turned off so I didnt know you asked a question. I have a PAU/BME 28x10 prop on my DA100, I put 28x10's on all my 100's. It works awesome, motor is happy, so Im happy, Ive used a few different of their props on my 50cc and my 150cc birds and I love them, best wood props Ive used so far. Hope that helps ![]()

Dang, I still dont get notifications, sorry guys. This prop pulls awesome, the engine revs good, snappy, not as loud as some others in my opinion, Ive used zinger, menz, 3w, and cant remember what other props so far. But I put these on all mine now. THeir 3D props are awesome too. Ken can give the specs on them.

Hey John- I have always loved Ultimates, I had one for my second plane when learning to fly years ago (seems like forever
) just curious about something. Would a DA-85 fly this plane and if so do you think it could be balanced? Thanks and I am seriously considering one.

Hey sweetpea, sorry it took me a while to get you these photos. The 3W106 fits great. It is a little heavier than other engines in its class but I just made a mounting deck for the batts. in the fuse behind the canopy. That balanced it out about 1/8 inch forward of the rear cg location.

Oh, the DA85 will fly the plane, I have no doubts of that. Depending on your elevation and setups vertical from hover will be the difference. but Im sure it will hover regardless.
