Default GP EXTRA 330L STAB PROBLEM?

G'day fellas,
Thanks for making me welcome to your awesome site. A bit about me, 29yo Aussie, been flying about 15 yrs and my 2 best planes are the GREAT PLANES Giant EXTRA 330L. I have one with a DA100 and one with a zenoah GT-80, 8411'S in one and HITEC HS-6985HB'S in the other. When building the first one I had trouble with poor fit up of the stabs to the fuse sides, after many hours of double checking building accuracy I found the problem was in the die cut fuse parts in the tail section, I pointed it out to the shop owner where the kit was purchased only to be palmed off to the importer. After months of phone calls I knew I was wasting my time so I packed the partly built fuse and stabs into my car and drove to Sydney to saught it out in person. He tried very hard to find a fault in my building and couldn't, When he was prepared to listen I pointed out the fault in the kit and it was replaced. To cut a long story short has any one out there had trouble with this fit up. If so it was not your building.
I also found a site today that has something for every body, definately worth a look.

Looking forward to any replies.
Regards, Wazza.

Default Re: GP EXTRA 330L STAB PROBLEM?

Welcome Wazza,

Glad to have you on board!

I also own a GP Giant Extra which I bought already built. I don't have a problem with the stabs, just the openings for the wings.
It seems the guy that built the plane didn't care if there were large gaps between the wing and the fuse, up to 1/4" in spots. I will be fixing that, along with the
fit and repainting the cowl.

I also have that site in my Favorites, great site, lots of info.

I am building one of these right now and had the same problem. The stab tube was also too big for the paper tube, which also was too small for the holes in teh lazer cut tail formers. I still love the kit. This was a minor problem that was simply fixed by shimming the stab tube socket in the fuse and then turning down the aluminum stab tube. It fits great and aligns perfictly with these mods.
