Default COMP 3.0 ANYBODY GOT ONE!

I am seriously thinking of a 3m comp arf Yak! I have a problem though! I have got the overpower bug like everyone else and I don't want to go back! I know that the specs call for a 150cc! But seriously! Is that enough! Videos would be nice! Comments work just as good! Thanks ahead of time!

If you want to go nuts then go for the 3w170 CS on some 1090 .

I have flown a 3m yak with a 150 and cannisters through the unlimited sequence ok. The motor was still brand new and rich but the vertical was good. Yaks can be deceptive with speed, they can appear to be slow and under powered but still have good vertical and sometimes more power seems to have only little affect other than to accelerate quicker. I am building one myself now and will put a 150 on 1090 pipes in it but plan to put a 170 in it later.

If you want a 32 x 10 mej @ 6500 on the ground the go for the 170 on pipes but as Roman said the Yak just seem to get LOUDER not faster . I have a 3W 170 Classic in my 3.0 and static rpm are at 6000 with that prop . At half throttle the plane is a bit too fast for cruising so i could cut it down to 1/3 rd but when it is pointed vert at full noise the plane does not down up .

These planes will never be fast like the 260/330 extra but they do like the 170cc . My plane is on the PeFa large cannisters and is starting to rip the mej but it is not over powered an any way. You will not over power the 3.0 with a 170 but if you want to make it sound like its off tap the stick some 1090 inside .

Hey Double A...Having done a complete build of the CompArf 3m Yak 55sp on Flying Giants http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...5sp-build.html
and now having 45 flights on it, I can say that the DA 150 with MTW 110 mufflers will pull the plane through the (IMAC) Unlimited sequence without problems. However, as other pilots above have indicated, you won't get an "overpower" situation, which you love, with this combination. Because of the large cowl & also the baffling which is used (on mine), there is a trade-off... You won't find the Yak speeding up like an Extra/Edge with a streamlined cowl, but she will keep on pulling at a constant speed.

On the DA 150, (on prior CompArf's) I had used a 28x12 three blade Mejzlik, but on this baby, it just did not work. I have settled into a 30x12 Mejzlik 2 blade prop for now & I'm awaiting the release of the DA 170, which will certainly be attached to this airplane as soon as I get it.

all the guys i know fly the 150 DA with pipes. -i know someone who will fly the yak with pipes and 29x12,5 Delro 3 Blade Prop -that rocks -he ha same combination in the SX and it was great.

i wouldnt use Mufflers - not enough Power for IMAC -better to have more power to keep speed constant in up maneuvers
