Firefighter: will have to check them out and see how they fly sometime.

Pretty sweet paint jobs there flyboyz43! I used to paint designs like those on lexan car bodies, but doing this stencil painting on these planes seem like they are a little more work. Using liquid mask is pretty sweet and simple to use.

Oestling your paint jobs look nice! Nice freehanding!

Huckin, you probably aren't driving up to Cedar Falls, Iowa to fly in the UNI-DOME Feb. 16th - 17th are yah? Should be a good time. Usually we get guys from Minesotta that come down and fly. I wanted to got to E-Fest in Champaign, but I would be embarrased to fly in front of some of the pilots showing up LOL! Thanks for the compliment and keep up the good work!

I recently purchased 6mm grey foam from RCfoam.com
What are a few of the color choices to spray on grey foam?

You can use any color I would think, but the lighter colors might be darkened. Before spraying any light colors like flourescents, I would throw a coat of white down first to brighten it up. Most of the medium to dark colors should be fine. White, black, blue, red and yellow would go with gray. I got pink with mine.

Just to show something different, here are some planes I did with rattle cans before I got my first airbrush.

Such heavy coverage makes for bright colors, but I'd only recommend this sort of treatment for outdoor foamies. Light coats with an airbrush are, of course, the way to go for competition-light indoor aircraft.

However, for guys wanting to color up some foam the cheap way, all of these were done with Krylon "Short-Cuts" rattle-can paint, posterboard (for cut masks), and some screen wire (for the geometric effects). Much faster than airbrushing, overall, too.

Hey Flyboy, awesome job. Can I ask you this... What do you use to map out the blue graphic detail and keep the white stripe? Is it 1/8" fine line tape or a larger vinyl cut graphic?? I am always intrigued by the layer process of airbrushing but don't have personal experience (hopefully soon).

Troy....I actually use posterboard and 3M45 spray adhesive. I trace along the edge of what I'm wanting to paint on the posterboard, then I draw out my design and cut it out with an xacto knife. Once I get everything cut on the posterboard, I flip the posterboard over and lightly spray the adhesive on the back of the posterboard and then lay it on the depron, pull out what I want to spray and paint. I save the parts I pull out, so I can put them back on the depron and pull out other parts to paint the other colors. Hope this helps

Is the 3M45 a low-tack, no transfer adhesive? So you cut on the lines of the design and use the negative pieces as well as the rest of the poster board, flip-flopping between the two to lay paint or protect areas of color.
