Carl, I have always used a solid linkedge and HS-625 and have never had a problem. I have never tried a soft linkedge before so I can not compare them, but I have never had a problem with a solid one. I would definantly got a bigger servo though.

My question, Is it good to use a solid linkage between the throttle servo and throttle arm on the carb or use something softer so the engine vibrations are dampened going to the servo? If any of you are wondering I had a hitec hs425bb servo for my throttle with all thread and ball links for the pushrod I had no metal to metal contact anywhere. I'll definitly be getting a more robust servo for the throttle this time. Thanks.

Carl

I've used the HS425 servo in two different throttle applications, and had problems with both airplanes. One a single cylinder, another a twin. I am now using full size servos with better results.

Which is better for a 150cc plane the smart-fly EQ10 or the Power expander 6 turbo? Will be running Lith ion batts and looking to run HV Servo's 2 on rudder direct drive 2 on Elev. Then run 3 standard 6.0 volt on the ail's. Any ideas? I am not up on the HV servo's. Will the smart-fly units listed above run them.

Carl,

Never, I mean never skimp on the throttle servo that is my rule.

ALot of folks will flame me for saying this but this is my rule.
it has worked so far.
Solid state surface mounting type servos are best for engine mounted environments.
I also demand precision at idle.

My two cents...

Jeff,
After going thru 20 sorts of hell with my Yak, I am in love with my EQ6 turbo.

That's all I have to say about that - get one!

Carl..

What Ron has said is totally true. Don't cheap out on probably the most important single servo in your plane.. I also reccomend the fastest servo you can find (under 12 at 60 degrees), expecially if your into 3D.

Also make sure you don't bind your servo/throttle when you use your kill switch or checking fail safe and binding transmitter to reciever..If it binds you can burn out the servo.

I didn't have any binding issues when binding tx to rx, setting failsafe, setting epa, or using the ignition kill. I've got 15 flights on it now. Maybe the vibration killed it. Guess thats what I get with a $12 servo. I'll go with what I have on the rest of the airplane which are Hitec hs645mgs. At least the plane lived to fly another day. I'll leave the 3d for the sim, he he. Thanks for the help guys.

I can live with a handle like "SunMan". Since I already got the good lookin girl, I'd sure as he-- settle for no more epic crashes. We do love your area there and geo wise it's located puuuurfect for getting to many other really nice places too. Don't be surprised if we come knockin on the door..

Wait a minute, it seems like Medford is where my truck broke down on a Friday night , we spent the night in the parking lot of some restaurant on the left before you turn to the field. We woke up to the sound of flying geese that would not stop. I thought they were either the slowest flying geese or we were being invaded by the geese flocks from he--. Turns out they were in a truck parked next to us. They were there for a bird-dog training event. It was really funny! Wondra, Pop's and I cracked up all day over it. To our amazement the dealers service dept was open on Saturday. So, while I flew, Pop's went in and got slayed on a new Toyota. Were talkin a 6 year lease.... Oouch, that guys still on vacation and that was about 5 years ago... Ha! (guess I don't have to worry about commerce, huh?) I love the little river that runs through the town next to their service dept. . What time is dinner anyway?

Look forward to seeing you guys.., hopefully sooner than later.

Wouldn't you know it, the sun is shining here today. What an anomalie..(that can't be spelled right.)

Well, unfortunately my Wild Hare Extra 300 LX is now in plane heaven. I'm sure God is having a grand time flying IMAC sequences with it's renewed airframe. I, however, had been practicing for IMAC competition with it even though I have not entered any yet. Now I need a new plane for my BME 50 and all the "innards(?sp)" from the Extra. I was looking at the Aero-Works Extra 300, love that yellow color scheme, but read some negative comments here on quality control. Like the Extreme Flights planes also. Any word on the EF 50cc Edge for IMAC? Any other suggestions? Also, is it a requirement to have cannisters to fly IMAC now? Hope to see you dudes at some NW IMAC competitions in the future!

Karl

your other options could be a 50cc Raven, Slick or MX-2 from EG....

Click my signature and you will see the pics of all the aircrafts. no upgrades required.

PS; Sorry for being shamelessly shameless

You might even consider moving up to a 100cc class if you think you'll be flying IMAC next year. Cannisters are not required for IMAC. A loud airplane or poor throttle control will cost you sound points though.

Don't know if I am ready to move up to 100 cc yet, maybe someday. It is a much larger investment and I still have not even participated in my first competition.

On the EF Edge, I have not flown it but I have the Extra for them and it is the best 50cc I have flown. I really really like it. The edge will be a bit better for 3D but not quite as good for IMAC as the extra. Both of them will do great 3D and IMAC, but if you are looking for a IMAC only plane, I would get the extra. It is top quality and flys like a dream. You would not regret either!
