yeah mike, a YS 170 is about 800 bucks after its all said and done, a good arf is at least 2k....see where im going with this...

only reason im doing it is because I dont have to buy a plane

its going to be like the year i flew kevin's extra at tucson, perfectly setup and easy to adapt to
Smackdown sent you a PM with Azar #

Free planes are good. Now all you will need is a fuel sponsor for 30% nitro at $29 a gallon for a YS 170 burns about 1 OZ a minute at 1/2 throttle. 1 to 2 Gal a day to fly $40 $60 each time you go out no thanks. .

It is true you can purchase for less then $1,000.00 but like IMAC you get what you pay for. Here is a link to NBE products. The Mantis F3A is like the "Carden" or "Dlaton" of pattern.

http://www.nbengineering.net/

Note the cost of the plane. $2,149.00 The lowest is $699.00. For the Mantis EX.

Centrel hobbies has some pretty good deals less then a grand. I think I seen one for only $199.00.

Another good plane is by Filton but I think he is not producing a 170 size air frame. Anyway there is some hard fact info for ya Mike. I got these google ing Pattern F3A

http://www.google.com/#sclient=psy&h...jlf&psj=1&fp=1

In fact the person to talk with is Henry P. Rumor has it that he is one of the best builders and pilots of the sport. I bet an hour on the phone would be priceless in finding out the in's and out's of Pattern.

FYI if anybody is interested, somebody posted on the NSRCA email list that he had a pair of YS 1.70's for sale. IIRC one was an CDI and was recently rebuilt (new bearings) by YS Performance and was $450, the other was an CDI for $350 with about 150 flights. I will find the contact info if anybody is interested.

p.s. pattern is FUN, the planes fly exceptionally well, etc. It just quickly gets expensive and the planes are somewhat fragile compared to IMAC stuff...

There is another one, NIB, for $555 shipped.
It is a bad time to attempt to sell anything right now...

So, is there going to be a warm-up or primer type of event anytime in the near future? I'm in Oregon, but I can travel if anyone is going to have anything happening that would help prepare me for the coming year.

Not sure if anyone got back to you on this, but as far as I know the first event for IMAC next year is the Polar Bear contest about mid April. There may be a judging seminar, but nothing has been announced yet.
You should check out the national IMAC site www.mini-iac.com. You'll find a lot of info there. The on-line judging course is excellent.
