BTW, the flight went very well. For those that do not know what happened, the engine threw the prop which took out the right wing during a low speed steep bank at a low altitude while on IMAC rates.....The perfect storm of events!!

This airplane promises to be the best IMAC ARF on the market and it's finally here!

That is a very sharp looking airplane, no question about it. Love the super-long tail moment, too. Glad it's finally available.

I have been flying with a DA 170 using KS 1090 tuned pipes and a Mezjlik 29x12N 3 blade prop & there is MORE power from this combination than is needed for Unlimited.

I just thought that you should know.
thanks,

Azhar of course at 37 lbs it's plenty of power with a 170 especially on pipes. Once you pass that 40 lbs mark though it's more difficult to do 1 3/4 snap on upline and keep your speed and enough power to humpty over the top.

The complain I hear over and over from everybody that has 170s on pipes that is tuned for max power, is that they have no mid range on throttle. It's either close to idle for most of the stick range or full throttle that comes on suddenly. That makes it very difficult to fly IMAC or 3D. Once they lengthen the pipes to get better mid range they lose a lot of that power the pipes are supposed to put out. That's why you see most people with 43% Cardens switch to 200s. Those people fly Advanced and Unlimited though.

Actually the "jump" is less noticeable if the length of the header is set at 14.5 - 15". You lose a little top end but that transitional jump is not enough to be noticeable.

Ben, the proto EF Extra was flown on a DA-150 on cans and had enough power. Put it on the 170 on pipes and it has more than enough! I agree with Azhar about the header length. There is a happy medium there and with it, you'll have an awesome combo!
My Yak has a DA-120 on RE-2 pipes and the mid range is fine and I got used to it fast.

Not trying to argue, but I know that this plane flies exceptionally well with a 170 on pipes!

My two cents... the 170 w/RE3 pipes should fly the plane with plenty of authority. From what I have learned there is an almost undecipherable difference in power between that and the 200.

Henry will be a good judge when he gets his 200 flying in his Carden, since he has already had the 170 in it.

Daniel, can't wait to see you fly the new EF. There certainly are several very nice choices becoming more readly available in ARF's.

Azhar, let me know when the Raven is ready, I want to see it in the air. It would be fun to see the two planes fly on the same field together at the same time. I am going to imagine I own one of them and dream of flying days to come.

Looks like I'll be going back to work soon, so hopefully, the funds will start coming in and maybe I can get back on the field and in the air before next season. I do like the Aeroworks Ultimate too and it just may be in my future. I have been truly BLESSED with THE MOST AWESOME WIFE!!

I still plan to CD the Polar Bear next season, and I know darn well I'll be jonesin if I can't fly also. Things are lookin up!!! Can't see selling my home for the tremendous plunge in value that it currently set in. I am thinking we are about two years away from recovery, maybe three... It kinda makes sense to wait it out and just plug away a little longer. It probably wasn't the brighest impulsive move to sell all my planes. Oh well, live and learn. What a dork!! I confess, My name is Rainman.... and I AM hopelessly addicted to flying!!!

From what I understand, you dad had the header at 14" with almost no gap between the header and pipe. The sweet spot is between 14.5 and 15".

Rainman,

I am awaiting a few parts to come in. As soon as it is ready to fly, you are most welcomed to have a go at the sticks.

Ben, sounds like I stand corrected about the engine differences. You are amazing man. Not only are you smart but when I saw how much your flying had progressed this year in Molalla, I was completely blown away! You are an excellent representation to what one can achieve when they really pour themselves passionately into this hobby. I am sorry I didn't video you flying the yak. I hope you fly Freestyle in Molalla next season. I would love to see you duking it out with all the exceptional talent in the NW. Doesn't matter where you live Ben, you will always be a part of us here. I look forward to flying with you again soon.

Thanks Miranda and Daniel. I know the best friendships I have developed in my life have come from IMAC. I never want to be away from the warm fuzzies I get around ALL you people. Thanks for being there for us. I know every region is filled with good people cause I personally believe this hobby attracts them, however; I could not imagine any nicer bunch than our NW.
