Help! Best Engine For Lanier 80 in. Cap 232 ARF

I bought a Lanier Cap 232 Arf at a swap meet over the weekend and am looking for engine suggestions. I have a Quadra 35 in mind since i already have one but I am not sure if that will be enough power to get good performance out of it. It should weight about 18 lbs. Any budget minded suggestions? Also if anyone has had one of these planes how did it fly? Thanks.

Buy my Moki 2.10.. I have for sale. It will be over powered and the wing loading will be less. In this size plane you really need to stay with a large glow, or the wing loading is to high.

I'd go with a DL 50. $300+, light, and powerful. Yes gas is heavier but that's a big plane. I'd go with a 50cc gas.

You can get a 45cc to 50cc gassser with the same wieght as a large glow but uses a bigger prop, better for 3D, and will not be overpowered and still have same wing loading as a big glow engine, with less mess, less tuning required, less deadstick landings and save money at the pump! I run both and prefer the less sloppy method 10 to 1. Large glows are a like having an extra knuckle dragin around.

Gas is not really heavier. Your large glow all wieght about 3 lbs or more. same with lightwieght gassers even with all that goes with them.

Would you wiegh your moki 2.10 for us with the muffler. How much wieght do you think is added from all the oil dripping off the bottom of the plane at the end of the day, Especially if you fly off dirt. Also wiegh any fuel pump or ignition conversions used for anti flamout redundantcy for a total all up wieght. Thanks.

Hey Extra Nut,
I havn't had any flame outs. Plus the Moki has 5.1 Hp so it turns a large prop. As for the mess, you will have to clean your plane after flying it! Weight is around 46Oz... A DA50 will weigh close to 1.5 pounds more. You will need an ignition battery.. I never ran a battery or pump with my Moki's. But I did have the tanks close to the back of the motor and ran large fuel line. Here's a video of my 80" cap with a Moki 1.80...

My Moki 1.8 is the best glow motor I've ever had. No pump, no need for on board glow. I got a gallon of bad fuel once had some top end tuning issues with it then but never had an idling problem or deadstick before during or after.

hey 66stang, that cap looks to have plenty of power with that 2.10. Nice stang also. I am a mustang man myself, true to the blue. I have always heard good things about moki's. Nothing bad. Never had or flew one though. I have always run O.S., supertigre's, and K&B's for glow.

Zoomer, i have had idle and continuous running problems with a handful of BGX's and ST3250. These problems were tunable but never consistant. Thats when i tried gas and well, i havent had a burble or deadsticked since. I kind of miss the deadstick at high speed right over the runway. I had a long run of bad scenario deadstick landing with out incident. Then a long rash of plane crashes. I never in 20 years of flying crashed more than one plane every couple or few years. When i crashed four in a two month period of time i had to try somthing new.
