To be honest who cares what the ground looks like. If it were important it would be a car sim. I know its not much better than the 3.5 but i feel some of the flight physics are a little more real. Try going to the view>show> and clear out all the objects so its just you the ground and the plane, it will speed things up a little and the plane will be sharper. I do like the new helis though. Good luck.

While he is being a bit harsh I'm with folgado.
I got G3/3.5 about a year ago. Performance is not good and my system can run Half Life 2 just fine. The annoying nag/registration screen on install is a @#$%#$. I paid and registered already, stop nagging me! The graphics stutter like Elmer Fudd when you crash an airplane. Every time you want to change a setting it does a fullscreen-to-windowed graphics mode change and thats slow and bloody annoying. The controller broke for me in 3 weeks of use. I had to open up its guts and glue it back together. Its a nicer controller than FS one or Aerofly but its still not as good as a real Tx. It's saving grace is the physics. Its has a very realistic feel. I would say that its a little better than Aerofly but I haven't done a close side by side comparison. If you can hover in Real Flight you can do it for real. I'm not bitter. I got my $ out of it and learned a lot as a pilot. It could be a much better product and the upgrade doesn't look like its worth it. I was really hoping to see more polish from them on this version. One of these days I'm going to 'Upgrade' to Aerofly Pro.

Umm... Why don't you just change your resolution to 1024x768? That should help you.

Half Life 2 was designed to scale well across various computer configurations, Real Flight is no where near as optimized. I run G4 on a Intel Core Duo 2 2.6Ghz system with a 8800GT and it runs great. BTW - Your eye can not tell the difference between anything higher than 60FPS. What you might be experience is frame rate drops below 60FPS, which will make it look less smooth than the other sims with older graphic technology.

OK. I will not insist on this anymore, just some final comments.
My only question is only that I donīt understand how can a company like Great Planes launch a Sim to the market that is only slightly better than the previous version, this is bad marketing, or very good because I bought one!! I donīt want to use 1024x768 in a 24" TFT!!!! I donīt care about the Interlink controller, I only use it to connect my radio, which in fact is a 14MZ, so off course I didnīt expect that Real Flight included a 14MZ in the package... What I meant is that the G3 interlink looked cheap and will only last 2 or 3 weeks, and the same happens with G4. Why does G4 doesn't gives you the option not to buy the Interlink controller like all others?? This can be important because some people buy the Sim and uses only the interlink controller, and off course after 2 or 3 weeks of active operation the sticks will give up, did you feel the moving of the sticks, it is even worse than G3! And, if you think these pictures are good, you should look at my AFPD at 1900x1200 in the same monitor, I'll try to take some print screens and post it. I agree that the graphics are not the most important, but then you have other Sims that gives you the same physics with much better graphics, what will you choose then? G4 physics with Dave Brown Sim graphics!!?? Come on this is 2007, not 1990! The G4 is only a marketing action, the software was not yet prepared to be launched commercially, and everybody will realize it at the long term. |

bla bla bla.... if your not happy return it... My son ( he's 5) has been using/abusing the G4 trans for about 6 weeks and she's holding up fine.. I'm not here to argue your point but you seem to be the only one not happy
BTY I'm running a 27" high res , 8800GT card, 60HZ and 1280 x 1024 with everything on the highest setting and it ROCKS.. ! I will give you 50 bucks for yours... I could use another copy for the office

OK G4 is a great Sim and I am the only one who doesn't like it. Bad luck of mine!
I thought this was a discussion forum... I will not sell it for 50 bucks, I think I will give it to a 5 year old kid, after all, I'm forced to conclude that this is precisely the best application of G4. I just wanted to alert other possible consumers the reality of the matter, and not what they read in the headlines. Thanks to everybody for their inputs! |

But wait, there's more!!! I'll buy it for $75. I don't want to get too expensive on ya. Take it back and stop complaining. You have other sims. You can only fly one at a time and you have like 3. Fly one of those. I have G2 and 3.5 AND G4 are alot better than that because I'm comparing G2 and G4 ~Michael~ |

Folgado,
I have 3.5. I have had it for about two years. (upgraded from 3.0) I have been flying the 4 at the LHS and find it to be really nice. Good scenery rendering and the planes perform better in my opition. The controller is what it iw. I am sure it will hold up as well as my current one. (no problems so far) My Father in laws unit broke a pim for a gimbal spring. I took his unit apart and repaired the gimbal by making a new pin and it has been fine for eight months now. I like the improvements that have been made. What I do not like is having to buy a whole new program. I wish there was an option for an upgrade since 3.5 is so recent but not near as smooth or accurate as 4.0. The reature of trims staying set to a plane and digital trims is nice but I really want the graphics and physics. I can trim a plane. I will still probably buy it.

Foldago, I own all the sims you do and I find that G4 has better graphics AND physics. AFPD deluxe looks close, but the physics are terrible. The planes float for days and do not feel like there is any mass to them. If you're unhappy with G4, put it on eBay and be done with it. You're complaining about the sim, but I seriously doubt your system is set up correctly.
