Default Polish or Wax for Ultracote

Just wondering what you guys are using to polish up your ultracote for a high gloss shine and taking finger prints off. I usually use a good car wax or sealer like mirror glaze and it also protects the covering from the crap you get on plane when flying. Lets here it guys for some suggestions??

Bruce, Alcohol is about the only thing I use. I have waxed in the past, but trying to repair covering that's been waxed is a giant pain in the rear. I can do without some gloss but would rather not mess with an iron around it. Where's Altoona?

There is 2 things that I have found thatare AWESOME for this purpose.
Both are Motorcycle products.

1) Plexor plastic polish - (any bike shop should have it) Works really nice, safe for al plastics.. cleans and shines... no build up.

2) Honda Polish - Same as Plexor, but I even like it better... Nice shine!!

Hope that helps!

I have been using Eagle One Wax as you Dry. It is a cleaner and wax in one. It works great, and leaves a very nice shine. The nice thing about this stuff is, every time you clean your plane, you are waxing it too. I does a real good job of protecting the covering seams from peeling.

Keep in mind what Biff said. He is correct, if you need to make a repair, the covering will not stick very good, or maybe not at all if the wax is still in place. If a repair is needed you will need to use a cleaner or solvent that will cut through and remove the wax.

I use Art Van furniture cleaner for this. I don't think Art Van has any stores in Iowa though. Alcahol may do the trick, but I have never tried it.

Try Brillianize by Kleenmaster. Out here, we get it at Tap Plastics. May as well pick up a block of microfiber cleaning cloths while you're at it.

For the painted surfaces, I like to use 3M's Finessit.

Both products are designed for detailing.

I forgot where I saw a Goldberg 540 that used a polish but can't remember the brand. Man this plane had a awesome gloss and wet look. Sure would like to know what will give me a shine that brilliant. At the time I was not interested in polishing up my planes. Anyone have any suggestions and maybe a photo?

Try Protect-all. I use it as a cleaner as well, as it has been the only cleaner able to remove exhaust residue from Bell-ray MC-1 oil, other than mineral spirits. Leaves a great shine, makes the next cleaning easier, and only takes like 6 squirts for the entire plane:

at work we have a special 3 step polishing system to clean plexiglas but we almost always use pledge and it works great so I tried it on my plane and it works just as good. gives it a nice shine. also works great on boat plastic windows. I wash the plane first with sprayway glass cleaner. never tried wax but I bet it works about the same.
