I have only had Sukhoi's & Yaks in the 2m 50cc size airframes. I currently have a Yak 54 2.2m built up ARF, a 2.2m Sukhoi 26 built up, and my C-Arf Yak 55-SP 2.1, I personally prefer flying the C-Arf out of the three. Although the 54 and 26 both fly well and land at walking pace, the C-Arf fly's accurate and as slow as you can only imagine, I would think that everyone is different when it comes to personal preference but for me, its the C-Arf thats wins hands down. Yes cost is way up there but worth every cent. I was told by a guy at our club who fly's IMAC that the 50cc size Composites end up heavy. So I was going to give them a miss....
Then I saw a video on Youtube that changed my mind, My Comparf ended up at 7.815kgs but it fly's light, unbelivebly light. as for C-Arf extras & Edge's I cannot comment, But inherently they don't have the same wing area as the Yaks. This maybe why the Yak fly's so nice. If I purchase another airframe anytime soon it will be another Comparf Yak 55-SP, Maybe the blue and white one this time ![]() Cheers Ivan Last edited by fly_fly; 05-11-2009 at 08:32 PM. Having owned a 2.12M Yak (the blue FG, just like yours) and other larger composite and wood airframes... I must agree with "peabrain" (btw.. thanks for that one, I'm sure to use it again!)...
building this plane, it takes a custom header to use a canister (unusual for a 50cc). It comes out about the same weight as a 50cc wood plane, and isn't really a rocket ship. It does have a nice smooth glide path, lands slow and is very predictable... but it's not a great acrobatic plane. It's almost everything you could ask from a 50cc plane, but has its limits. The Extreme Flight planes, by comparison, have much larger control surfaces, don't require customized headers to put a pipe or canister on the plane, and are much more capable of both 3D and IMAC advanced routines. Composite airframes have some great advantages, but the trade-offs they made in the 50cc class make it a tough choice. Enjoy your yak.. good luck with it. By the time you get ready for your next plane, you'll understand. Hey... Peabrain... how's Nebraska? Oh... BTW... the Firewall is pre-mounted on the current 2.1 Yaks. My post got deleted and i owe an apoligy to "pepatric" I was reacting to his negitive post! Any ways..i've owned the bigbrother to this plane, as well as the extreme flight.and have had 3 QQ yaks .i'm well aware of the capabilities of them all...but wanted something alittle smaller to take to the feild when the rush is on!...i'm pumped about flying too! As for the custom header what's the diferance?..place your order when your building it...don't we always get what we need for our planes? Still waiting for the maiden.. our funfly this weekend so it's go time...hope to get out before then!I'm Going to try the 145mm for C.G and go from there. Thanks to all those that contributed mannyh

This part of Nebraska...and all 5 residents. Strangely enough..I like small towns...and Sidney, NE does not disappoint. There is not much to do, but I am captivated by the miles and miles of potential RC airfields...I just cant find anything to eat out here except Dairy Queen...Not really good for a diabetic.

Fortunately...I did not read the post so no harm done. I didnt think my post was all that negative. I just stated a few things based on experience. I have owned or flown the planes I compared and still think there are others out there that are better. If anything...I explained that I enjoyed my Compy 2x2 extra. It was a blast to fly...it was not particularly great at 3d, but was not bad...it was a lot of fun to fly very very fast with the ZDZ 50 and tuned pipe. I stand by what I said though...other brands fly better in this class, but as I said...I did not dislike the any of the compy 50cc planes.

I have to agree with pepatric- the 2.1 does fly good, but the built up planes in the 50cc class end up significantly lighter and by my tastes fly better. The composite is convienient, but at this size the weight penalty is too much for to put them in the "excellent" catagory to me.

Well it looks like we have a whole bunch of mixed emotions about the CArf Yak 2.1, That's to be expected..!! For my taste in airframes and my style of flying ( Sport Aerobatics ) this air frame is me. I don't expect it is going to be everyone's cup of tea, I mean if the Yak 2.1 suited every pilot in every country around the world, that would be boring !! imagine joining a club all flying the same airframe
we are all individuals and have different tastes. this is why I do not use information that I read in forums as gospel...... what I like you may hate, what you consider bad, could be great for others. Its entertaning reading this crap though I must admit..!!!! In the mean time I will enjoy my Yak 55 untill somthing else comes along that suits me again ![]() Anyhoo, Have fun with your models and don't take thing's too seriously. Cheers Fly_Fly |
