Guys, I'm looking into purchasing the Aerobatic Concepts tailwheel springs/control lines, and I would like to know if anyone is using this product? Anyone got pics of it on their plane in an UP CLOSE view? I have seen them fairly close, but a slightly closer pic would be awesome. Who here uses this product???Thanks guys!

Thanks for the info guys. Can anyone tell me exactly how their springs work? Their site describes the springs as "compression springs", and it states that they develop more pressure, the farther the rudder is turned. SO, is that spring they use actually being COMPRESSED when you turn, AS OPPOSED to being PULLED APART like other conventional spring setups????? Does this Aerobatic Concepts spring set include EVERYTHING shown in the pic, OR does it ONLY include the spring itself??? Is that pull-pull wire and crimps included with the springs, OR is that something that you must provide yourself, to install the AC's springs??? Thanks guys..

By the way, I was also wondering if anyone has seen that tailwheel setup in the AC's pic before? Who makes that tailwheel? I bet it's not as light as some others, but it sure looks kind of cool. Just kind of different. WHO makes it? Is it a custom, "one-off" job????

take a look at the earlier picture for reference...
Most tailwheel springs are "closed" with no pressure on them.. the rings of the spring are touching each other, and the spring is pulled to create tension. On the aerobatic concepts spring, the rings are spread apart at rest, and they are compressed to touch each other, so the pressure created wil be compressing the spring instead of streatching it. There are 2 'U" shaped stiff wires running through the center of the spring, and you attach your tailwheel cables to these loops. The cables run from the rudder to the tailwheel, with the srping in the middle. When the rudder turns, it pulls on the cable, putting compression on the spring to turn the tailwheel. This is probably a bad description, but it does seem to work well, at least on my pool table! |

I have made similar springs using stainless springs from the hardware store and small cotter pins. That was before I saw these.

I use these setups on all my planes since I first saw the concept. I have never had any issues.
Keep the springs in a 20% state of compression at the center position. This gives the springs rooms to compress as they are pulled and the opposite spring staying with some slight compression and not going slack.
