Default WH 35% Sukhoi

Thought I'd share some Christmas present photos with everybody... I got a 35% Wildhare Sukhoi Quickbuild... Tom was good enough to pre-dill the firewall for my DA100, glue on the canopy, put a Hempel pilot and instrument panel in the plane pre-installed, and of course, since it has pocket hinging, it already has everything hinged and ready to go....

I'll post some pics and answer questions for those interested. This one is primarily by toss around, try anything plane for now. Have several 40% planes that I typically fly. In fact, I'm currently flying one of Tom's 41% Extras--red/white/blue version. I've been flying that one for about a year now. I like it so much that I ordered a yellow/black/white version at the same time that I ordered the 35% Sukhoi.. have it almost ready to fly... just need to finish installing cannisters and get a few odds and ends.

With the 35% Sukhoi, have JR8411's throughout since I had them laying around--two per aileron, one for each stab, two for rudder in a push-pull config. I've flow the plane just a hand full of times back about a month or so ago in 20 mph winds... It definitely floats and floats... DA100 makes this plane a rocket.

Again, any questions PM or ask away. I'm not affiliated with Tom/Wildhare, just thought I'd share.

That is a great looking airplane! The pilot is not bad either.

Looks like the paint match is just bout perfect. The scheme is really cool too, how is it to see in the air though? Can you give your flying weight too?

Will you be flying this in IMAC or just for fun?

Looks Great! It would look better in a 50% scale! ha! lol.

Bill,

Yes, the pilot looks great Fits the scheme well.

This plane is primarily my 3D, do anything kind of plane.. just wanted something a little smaller, a little more agile to throw around the sky.

Plan to fly the two 41% Extras from Wildhare in IMAC next year... haven't flown competively in a long, long time.. maybe 8 years or so, and then just briefly. In fact, just called Bobby at Cactus for a set of headers for the new yellow Extra. Shoud be in shortly.

I've looked hard at your 50% 260... love the scheme, love the plane... just not 100% convinced about going that BIG! How is the 3W 275 in that size plane? Is it user friendly, give you much problems? Just curious what your thoughts are regarding the powerplant. That would probably be my biggest concern, not to mention cost for the powerplant.

Not sure on weight... I'd guess 26-27lbs, but don't really know. It flew light in the air and was a rocket. Tons of power. I think Tom is recommending many to go to the DA85, which is probably a good suggestion. It would easily have enough power, and would probably balance easily with a lighter engine up front. I know I have the DA100/standard mufflers up front and put two rudder servos in the tail on a push-pull and batteries at the back area of the canopy section to get it to balance. It was pretty windy the day I flew it, so its hard to say if its balanced well at this point or not.. but it was in the ballpark. Again, a lightweight DA85, 3W85, or a ZDZ80 should fly it well and keep the plane balanced without adding weight.

Easy to see in the air though, even with all of the blue. of course the bottom in grey/yellow with redbull, so good contrast overall. Again, not bad to see at all. Of course, keep it close and low and nobody really every has problems seeing it anyways

I've found the bottom is very hard to see well for IMAC. I added a black/yellow/black striping on the bottom of the wing at the tips. Makes it very easy to see.

I've found cloudy/hazy days are the hardest days to see the bottom of the stock plane.

Mine is nose heavy with the 106 and cans and servos in the tail for rudder. I had to add some lead to the tailwheel.

I think he is. It should save some time in building. I haven't read everything about his new Quick Build planes yet but I should find out sometime soon.

My understanding is that he is, or at least for his 100cc sized planes and below he is. He's got some info on his website now for those that are interested... seems he's doing most of it now for around the same price he used to charge for the standard ARF... can't beat that. Check it out under his "specials" page.
