Well, our friends from the Pacific Northwest have done it again! Take a look at what the Fromeco Boys just dropped: A whole gaggle of killer new A123 gear for the giant scale folks! A123 batteries have moved from a "you try it first" technology, into the mainstream, and this is a huuuge announcement that is a boon for the new generation of power hungry electronics for today's giant scale applications. You must have been living under a rock, or taken up RC cars recently to have missed the MANY discussions on FlyingGiants regarding A123 viability. Suffice to say, it's here, and it's cool.
First, we have the all new Kodiak switch which directly addresses the shortcomings of A123 chemistry, and the voltage drop "cliff" that concerns A123 adopters. Fromeco has alleviated these problems by including a visual counter which gives the pilot valuable information regarding milliamp draw, and battery discharge. For more information about the Kodiak, check out this thread: http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...s-fromeco.html Next we have some more great news for A123 fans, it's the LIFe ION Cube A123 charging modules! If you own one of these killer chargers, this is a drop in replacement card that brings A123 charging compatibility to this already killer and versitile charger. Read more here: http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...cube-card.html So what's next? One can only deduce that some fantastic new products will follow that will actually plug into these new products and provide an exciting advancement for us modelers.. I'm guessing Nicads. But who knows. ![]() And in parting, and slightly OT - Kurt and Mike at Fromeco are two of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. They stand by their products, they show endless support the hobby, and are constantly on the cutting edge making the stuff we need. Fromeco have also been HUGE supporters and sponsors of FlyingGiants through the years, and we couldn't be more proud to know 'em. Head over to the brand new Fromeco.org for all the latest. 12 - 13 flights a weekend with no additional charging is perfectly fine for me.

That's one great thing about this hobby though. We've got lots of choices and everyone gets to fly what they want to. Jim |

I have around 250+ flights on 4 different 35- 40% airplanes , all with 8+ digital servos (8711, and 5955) never had any issues what-so-ever. 12th flight as good as the first. I'm not dogging A123's. Enjoy them. I hope they rock. I am just saying you don't need to jump if you have 5 planes set up with Lit ions. This hobby does rule, and the people rule as well, but sometimes I think people can intimidate new guys into thinking that if they don't have the newest, latest power systems there plane's will surly crash. I know guys flying NICADS, NIMH's, Lit IONS, LI POLYS, A123's and if properly set up and monitored, all will work great. ENJOY!

This is the main reason I am switching to A123's. I will now know that I have plenty of current flow. I do agree with you that your set up is important too though. For example, if you use a switch rated at only 5 amps in line with a battery that is rated at over 60 amps, you are not doing yourself any good. I also like the A123's for their longer life span, and no danger of fires or explosions. This has all been covered in other threads though. I still plan to use lithium ions for my ignitions. We still have some flyers that prefer NiCads on rx's. Jim |

I was wondering if Fromeco was keeping one step ahead and indeed they were.
Like Sleepy, I'm going to stick with the "antique" lithium ions for a bit. I'm only running two 50cc planes so they seem to do fine. |

I agree with you too, I like the Fromeco li-ion too. I still think it is a lighter setup even if you have the reg and a switch. OR a super reg.
I that plenty of power and with the d-cup, and a power expander in my plane I don't worry. |
