Default H9 Extra 330L 33% (rebuild)

I purchased a giant scale plan in November of 2007. I am now the 3rd proud owner, previous owners were (1st) Don Bright and (2nd) Chris Hammond. The plane has been taken care of by both of these previous pilots. But due to the age and use, I decided to remove the covering, fix things up a bit, and recover the plane (designed by me). Looking forward to flying it this summer with the help of some experienced pilots, since I am fairly new to flying rc. This is my second rebuild, the first being my trainer (after some minor damage and decided to learn how to recover). The first one went very well, so now onto this project.

This is from the start till now. Will post more as it gets closer to completion.

I am doing the exact same rebuild a Hangar 9 Extra 330L 33%. Picked mine up last month from Cody and Dale Morgan. They picked it up from the previous owner (don't know who) as a parts plane due to the last landing ending in a crash... I am down to finishing the trim work, Spinner, fuel tank and lines and battery install. Looing forward to flying!!!

Good luck,
Matt

Great job Matt (stlmaj) on the repairs and covering. Let me know how it fly's when you get the chance. It will be a few more months before the snow is gone and I get some more flying time in with the trainer.

Ive got the red one and am the second owner of it. It origanly had a ZDZ80 on it and i flew it that way last year in IMAC. I just put the first flight on it today with a new DA85 and all i can say is WOW its a totally different airplane. has unlimited verticle and enough power to do 4 snaps on a upline and keep going. Probably could have done more but it was too cold. weight is 24Lbs dry and approx. 26lbs wet. Good luck guys you will like the airplane.

since you have it striped down you may want to see what you can do to lighten up the airframe. Mine tends to fly alittle heavy in the wings as in it over rotates snaps etc. I have played alot with the setup on mine and cant seem to change it. All i fly with the airplane is IMAC so i dont know how it 3d's i have seen it 3'd by the previous owner but have never done it myself

Do you already have the DA?

At one time I had Dale's 330s with the 3W 85 twin. When I got it I was at 27.5 lbs. I went to single servos on everything and pulled out the smoke and matchboxes. Got it down but it was still over 26 lbs. I would have loved to keep the plane and put a DA85 in it. That plane is really meant for a 80-85 singles. Mine still flew alright but it would have been better with say a DA85. I probably would have kept it once I sold the heavy engine but I caught the 40% bug and needed servos.

I'm sure that I'll meet up with you at some point this flying season, I normally fly with Cody and Dale and live in Wentzville. You work with Cody right? I was at Mark Twain one time and you were telling the guy behind the counter about Cody buying the CP for parts for like $20 and changing a fuse or something and it worked fine after that.

Wow you have a good memory... Yea Cody had bought a Blade CP at a swap meet for $20 that was supposed to have a bad 4in1. I was going to change out the mosfet chip in the 4in1 for him but after hooking up a battery to check it out we found it worked perfect!!! I do work with Cody and the plane I have was the parts plane to the one you purchased. Cody has been helping me with engine and servo selection along with setup. I have the DA-100 installed but I am not ready to fly it yet still working on the finishing touches and radio setup.

See you at the field,
Matt

Thanks for the advice. I have done a few things to lighten it up and cleaned up areas that still had additions from the previous owners (that are not being used). I am in the process of installing the electronics and stuff, and balancing the plane. I will be checking the weight of the plane as soon as I get everything in place (temp). The plane came with carbon fibre landing gear and I am putting in carbon fibre wing tubes. The plane already had some modifications done to it to lighten it up.

What setup are you running for the rudder? The plane I bought had one HiTec servo using a pull pull system.
