Bad-ass Super Contributer!
![]() |
I haven't posted much on this site yet, so thought I would show a few photos of what I've been working on this winter.
This one got off to a pretty rocky start with some packaging/quality issues....some missing parts.....and an "issue" with my vac-bagging system. it's coming along nicely....I'm nearly finished with the construction phase and about ready to start finish sanding and covering. The yak is built more or less per plans with some minor changes to the tail and fuse construction to lighten it up a bit.....we'll find out if my modifications are any good after the first blender.... I ended up tossing the hatch pieces into the scrap pile and started off on my own. I felt the plywood plate that comes with the kit was just too heavy. I also made a front dash out of some scrap foam and found a smaller instrument panel that looks a bit better proportioned with the rear instrument panel that was included with the kit. In the end, I saved well over 10oz of weight in the hatch alone. I knocked another 6-8oz out of the fuse stringers....and a couple oz using balsa end-caps on the wings and stabs instead of the plywood pieces included in the kit. |

This is the best picture of the interior I have right now. I'll post more as I finish it up.
I'm working on finish-sanding right now....probably a week or more of that yet, then I can start covering. I'll post more pics as the covering gets under way. I'm hoping that by the end of May this thing is ready to fly.....we'll see. As far as finished weight....again, I'm hoping for 28lbs.....but we'll see. This is a huge plane.....much bigger than your typical 35%. |
