Hi guys, I'm setting up my QQ Yak54 102" with a 14mz and need some guidance on which wing and tail type to use for IMAC and 3D. In general, there are two aileron servos per wing, one servo per elevator half, and two rudder servos. Thanks for the tips!

I'm in the process of setting up a similar airframe. I'm using the 2 aileron setup, and 2 elevator tail setup. I've struggled with the two rudder setup because you need the winglet for that. Some one posted that you just need to use "Rudder,,Rudder" for dual rudder linkage and its looking good so far. I'll be using a Power Box instead of dual recievers. I'll also be using Hitec digis so I can program the rudder servos for center and endpoint. If you go this rout and use JR you may need a match box for the ailerons and rudder servos, or the power box with servo matching. You can also choose the 4 aileron wing type and match the ailerons, but you'll still need something for the rudder servos.

Hi Steve, I'm using Hitec 7955s, single receiver, and a Smartfly 14mz power expander. No matchboxes.

You should be good then. Just use the two aileron option, two elevator tail option, and use "Rudder ,, Rudder" on two differant channels. Going this rout linked up my tripple rates and expo. I'm also waiting on the 7955's to start shipping.

Common misconception setting up aerobatic types with the 14mz, you don't want/need the two elevator setup. If you don't forsee any need for having your elevators work as ailerons (ailevator), there is no reason to choose it. Same thing with the aileron setting. I choose the two aileron (ail1,ail2) to be able to take advantage of flaperons. Similarly, there is no reason to pick 4 ailerons if the aileron is one piece.
With the elev-elev option chosen, you still have indepedent sub-trim and atv for each servo. Another gotcha, on the function screen, don't change the Ail2 control or trim, leave them NULL. Let me know if this helps. Daniel |

Yep... I originally set mine up with 2 elevators and 4 ailerons... WAaaaaaaay too confusing.. Don't overthink the radio, I know I was....
Now just 2 aileron (as I use spolerons and flaperons) and one elevator... just plug each elevator half into its own function (channel) and work from there... makes it Soooo much easier down the road...

OK guys, if I select 2 ail wing type and normal tail type (1 ele), I get the following Rx channel functions:
Ch1-Ele Ch2-Rud Ch3-Throttle Ch4-Ail Ch5-Ail2 Ch6-Gear Ch7 to Ch12-Aux1 to Au6 Based on this Rx channels, how should I assign the two ele servos, 4 ail servos, and 2 rud servos? I have to also take into account the servo groupings (Ch1-Ch3, Ch4-Ch6, Ch7-Ch9, Ch10-Ch12) to minimize servo delay. Thanks! |

Here's my setup on a 12MZ. Should work for you also. What DA2000 said is entirely true. Also, try to keep any ganged servos in the same 3 channel groupings (ie. 1,2,3 or 4,5,6 or 7,8,9 or 10,11,12). This is discussed in the manual.
Channel - Function - Servo Activity Ch 1 - Aileron - Inner Servo Right Aileron Ch 2 - Aileron - Outer Servo Right Aileron Ch 3 - Throttle - Throttle Ch 4 - Elevator - Right Elevator Ch 5 - Elevator - Left Elevator Ch 6 - Gear - Choke Servo Ch 7 - Aileron2 - Inner Servo Left Aileron Ch 8 - Aileron2 - Outer Servo Left Aileron Ch 9 - Aux1 - Open Ch 10 - Aux2 - Open Ch 11 - Rudder - Left Rudder Servo Ch 12 - Rudder - Right Rudder Servo |

1 Elev
2 Elev 3 Throttle 4 Ail 5 Ail 6 7 Ail 2 8 Ail 2 9 10 Rudder 11 Rudder 12 Rudder The open channels could be used for anything else you might have, throttle kill, choke, etc. |

Thanks Guys!
Hi DA2000 and Exeter, if I need to program in spoilerons/flaperons, should the Ail2 control and trim be left at null? Last edited by rcflyer; 02-15-2008 at 11:35 PM. |

Yes!
Activate the spoilerons in the elev-camber menu. I'm going to take one of my programs for my Dalton 260 and zero out the subtrims and even up the ATV's. It should make a good template for most any 3D/IMAC setup providing a good place to start. It will be a week or so before I'm home to do it, though. I'll post it here somewhere. Dan |

Hi Dan, what happens if Ail2 control and trim are set to the same settings as Ail?

Here is a thread where I describe how I set it up
I'm sure it isn't the only way, but it works perfectly http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...eron-14mz.html Post 10 and 11 (do post 11 first !!)
