FG Paging System - Online!

Heya Crew,

We've recently been experiencing problems with our paging system here at FG, specificly overall site performance degredation during our peak times. We're going to shut it off for now. Please keep in mind, this is offline for -everyone-, and has been for the past day or so.

OK...the word "soon" kinda sorta means...like in a short period of time...like....not later...or, in other words, ....in "a couple of hours"....or even "a few hours"! NOT...hours upon hours...or days even...kinda...sorta... .

Well I dunno...I may just have to place my loyalties elsewhere...like...a different site...like...one that loves pages like I do....I just dunno...

haha rad thats funny! really the pagers are the best part of fg,, because no other site does it, and yes i have memeberships elsewhere as well, and im usually there in another window.. like now.. haha but this cant be uncomen.. i do under stand the need to get better site speed,, but like in my other thread,, now we have to chat in normal thread space.. at least pagers are deleted.. hope you get this back soon max.. iv been a huge supported of this site, and i know youll do right.

LOL!! You guys better not bail cause the pager system is having issues!!! Here's the technical details... The pager works using AJAX technology. What that means, is when you're connected to fg like the usual 1000+ members and guests, there is a database query that your browser is making to our servers silently in the background. Every 10 seconds. Multiply that many many times, and our processor usage starts to majorly bog down. Know how FG's been experiencing performance issues recently? I tested turning off the paging system, and our processor usage dropped aproximately 25 percent. That's huge. What I'm doing now is trying to find a way to make it work better, without soo much overhead. Gimme a few days, I'll have it back.

COOOL hope it works out.. question tho. is there a way to not have to save the pagers ... that way its a message to the users, then its not stored.. wouldnt that help? itll be great once i can stop chekcing my pms ever 2 minits and deleting the 50+ fg emails i got tonight form pm notices hahah,

I agree. I had forgotten that pages get saved...need to dump that...I never check my old pages. Also is there a way to make buddy lists more useful...like maybe a buddy list button that I can hit so I can choose right away who I want to send a page or pm to without having to hunt them down somewhere on the site? Heck, maybe reformatting to streamline the whole site to make it run more efficient would be a good idea. (Threading and Posting is perfect though...don't change a thing on it!)

Stop making more work for me!!!!! JK! We have a major software update coming up that will hit on alot of features you're talkin abou Rich.. In the mean time, your paging system just got turned back on after a few tweeks. Input taken!!

Do you honestly think that just because they lost I would actually stop being a fan?
I'm 43yrs old and I have been eating, sleeping and sh$tting Patriots loyalty my entire life. I'm not just some fairweather fan that just jumped on the bandwagon because it was popular.

I am also loyal to this site and if Max is having software issues then I am not about to jump to a different site just because some feature doesn't work.

right after rad posted that i pmed him sayign that was harse haha, im a packer fan and i was going for the giants.. but i dont do much with big team sports.. i like the extreme stuff, where in most cases the competitors are good friends, and doenst matter the out come.. oh well this is resolved
