Default Loco Competition EPP

I had just crashed my almost new Loco Competition in a very stupid way so I decided to give EPP a go. When you fly outside the air is always moving therefore even if it is a little bit floppier and won't track just as nice who cares?

Setup

HCS C 30W/2
CC Phoenix 10
Coldfusion Lipo 2s 450mAh
GWS 7x3,5
Penta RX
3x JS S185

AUW 118.0g

The wing has no carbon spar. Flying wires and the EPP "spar" are enough! I took it for a quick flight this morning but wind was almost too much for a 120g plane. First impression was good though! No visible flopping or flutter. Will now more when I get a couple of flight without wind.

fdix,

Looks great! where can I get a set of plans? Is the tail section also strung with flying wire and what density EPP did you use 1.3 or 1.9? I'll take what ever info you have on the building of the plane.

Thanks,
Angelo

I am just finishing up my first EPP build a Gene Bond Yak-54 (from RCG). What have you found to be a good method for hinging EPP? On my depron models, it is hard to beat Blenderm for quick and easy hinging but we know Blenderm doesn't stick well to EPP.

Thanks

1" fiber reinforced packing tape works well with epp for hinging.

For hinging I do the classic elastic flap. Cut it on the underside without cutting through the upper skin, bend 180deg and then have fun sanding. Put a small pieces of fiber reinforced tape at each end and in the middle of the control surface to stop it from tearing, works great so far.
If you plan on using 1" fiber reinforced tape get the unidirectional type and cut it in halve to save weight!

I do not know what density the epp is I used. I get it in 5.5mm sheets. The empty airframe is 1 or 2 grams lighter than the Depron version so I guess the density of my epp is halve the Depron's. Depron is 40kg/m^3 right? Form that I would say I have the 1.9 epp

On the wing I use flying wires made of Elmex non waxed dental floss which is pre stretched (important!) for a few days. Just attach one end to the ceiling and the other to something heavy. The tail is reinforced with 1mm carbon rod.

Sorry no plans available. All Locos come as CNC milled kits.

Hey guys - I'm new to forums... been reading them for awhile - but never posted. Well, I'm posting because I've been having a blast with epp - and one epp plane in particular from www.alphafoamies.com the EPP Contender! It totally rocks!

Mine weighs just 6oz's and for a bi-plane... thats a whole lotta wing area... so it really really floats! It has radically transformed my flying. Like many of you... I've been building all or most all of my own planes... but, I've FINALLY found a designer making quality epp kits of planes that really perform 3D like the ETOC depron planes do - but... MINUS the fragile depron (the enemy) garbage!!!

I tried to post a couple pictures. It said I couldn't because they were too big. I can't resize without my computer & I don't have any video's with me (my computers in for repairs - I'm using my sisters Mac right now) but you can see my pictures & video's of me flying this plane on YouTube under 3dpastorDOTblogspot or on my blog at www.3dpastor.blogspot.com

I'm not selling anything, honest! I'm a pastor in the Syracuse NY area... and i"m pumped about ANYTHING epp - and WAY pumped about this plane! Check it out! Best epp plane I've flown so far!
