Default Any one racing bipes this year?

Just saw a pic of Ray thompson's sorceress in IMAA. Got the juices going. Is anyone racing this class this year or is that an old pic?

The Biplane class has had it's difficulitys. I flew it two years ago and almost won the season but lost my plane to some unknow cause at the Parker race. Right now John Lockwood and Bobby Slaughter have Biplanes. I have one to build but I also have two Unlimited race planes to build and my efforts are on the Unlimiteds. Frankly the Unlimiteds are easier to fly than my Biplane was. I flew the RnR Sundancer Biplane and hold the class speed record but it was a difficult plane to figure out what it was doing. It was quite fast with the GT-80 engine and I was sad to see it go especially since I don't know specifically why it went in.
Any way the quick and dirty would be a Great Planes ARF Christian Eagle but it needs some extra work to make it handle the extra weight and speed the plane flys at. There have been some foam wings cut that are faster on this plane but it will not be as fast as any other biplane build specifically for the class of racing.
I wish I could give you more encouragement but I think you will be much happier flying in the Formula 1 GT class plane. The class is much bigger, the planes fly easier and you can guarentee the class will be a go at each race. Why don't you plan to come over to the Rantoul race and help out one of the race teams? You will learn a lot, who knows if you are lucky there might be a plane for you to fly. Also don't forget the Sundowner class will be flown as well. If you have a Moki 2.10 or Saito 1.80 installed. I think you will be competative.

oh ok. I knew the biplane class has had its problems. I have a moki 2.1 from back in the dominator days, so most likely i'll race the sundowner class in ohio. thanks for you input!

Jeepster,
Why don't you come over to Rantoul as well? Once you get back racing it will be a hoot, and passing up a nearby race is almost a sin!

def a possibility. I start as a first officer next month so it'll all depends on if i get a line and off reserve by then. Is there any more concrete data on the moki/sundowner combo? i've read the other threads and it seems like the bme 50 is the engine to beat.

The BME 50 isn't a legal engine for racing. Any stock gas or glow engine up to 35cc with stock muffler meeting AMA noise requirements. Any prop except on 35cc glow like the Moki/Mark 2.1, which is limited to an APC 17x12 pattern.

See the new Sundowner rules here.

Hope to see you there.

Hay Sparky.
I like that plane!
Is that a new one for 08? I don't remember seeing it in Parker.

Mike,
thanks for noticing. The Vendetta is no more, I lost it in a midair with Jerry Bradley at Ashtabula, last year. I have three Stiletto's to race this year one is Tom Keattings old race 29 and two will be my builds. I am to mounting the stabs on the fuse when I get home. The build on a all composite airplane goes pretty quick but there is still lots of thinking and planning to make everything as bullit proof as you can. It did look pretty cool with the Colts logo. Maybe the two I am building will be the same as well. Still trying to decide.

The scheme is the hardest part sometimes.
I am also building a composite plane right now, but an aerobatic type.
The $ just keep adding up! But it's beautiful.
I will post pictures as soon as I can. It will also be in at least one magazine.
