The YS63 performs best with a Vess 13x6 or APC 13x4W on 20% nitro, 14x4W on 30%.
MStam -- Thanks so much for replying dude. Yes actually I am working with the electronics now and have everything centered and all the control surfaces leveled now. I am noticing the movement in the horizontal stab while moving the control surfaces so I may definitely throw some carbon rods on it for support.

Umm. 1/2 - 1 inch. I am using a A123 pack and currently have it stuffed forward but it is still tail heavy. I would hate to redrill again.. But vs throwing unnecessary weight at the plane I would either try a nose cone with some weight to it. What do you think ? I may also go back to a NIMH for the extra weight. I am just too excited right now and want to fly it. I am measuring @ the 5 inch - 5.5 inch area but I have read some guys are getting it at 6 inchs.

Wow -- Checking out your pics so I see your literally at the nose of mounting area. If I can't work it out then I guess I have no choice. Mine definitely further back.

I also have an 1100mah A123 pack in the left wing's LE. You might IMO end up mounting the engine more forward. My Chinn flies fine now but I would have preferred it a little more nose heavy. The CG is a little over 6", 6" is the sweet spot. I added close to an ounce to the tail I guess for the repairs.

Spinner weight doesn't work very well with the YS63's double nut system. If you intend to use it, put it between the prop nut and lock nut. I might add an ounce; with an almost empty tank the plane hangs on its tail. Not a disaster but it balloons inverted.

Last time before this Yak I flew nitro is over 2 years ago. As far as I recall, on Omega 30% Heli, 10,800 rpm APC 14x4W, 12,500 13x4W. Haven't tached the Vess 13x6 yet. All I can tell is that it works very well. From idle to full throttle in less than a second. I'll tach it next time.

Thanks!
Higley makes a weight that fits between the prop and prop nuts so you can still use the double nut system. Weighs an ounce.

Luck, Dewayne

The 2oz won't work w/ a double nut system unless it's being put between the 2 nuts. The YS63 has a prop nut for a 14mm wrench which doesn't fit in the spinner weight.

A 1 or 2oz prop nut on top of the lock nuts might be a better choice.

I'm holding the weight in my hand as we speak, and it has a 1 3/4 inch opening for a socket wrench to tighten the two nuts. I know this works because I use it.
The tapered clamping action between the two nuts doesn't allow for anything to be put between them... defeats the purpose of having them.

The one I have here is I believe from Great Planes. I need a 1oz anyway now so that should fit fine.

MStam - considering I don't have any rebuilds on the tail do you believe I will getaway with the nut Dewayne posted vs moving the engine fwd. Or should I just go ahead and move it fwd and the use the fuel tank to adjust CG from that point on.

The tank is too light to move the CG with. I don't know where you have your engine now.

Attached image is where I had the engine before the repairs and I needed 2oz of weight in the spinner to get it to 6".

6" is at the front of the servo wire slot at the bottom of the wing. I get the impression that later models of this plane came out a little more tail heavy so your setup might differ. Don't forget to install the struts.

And also epoxy some carbon in the wheel spats. 2 pieces each, top and bottom of the wood. Else it'll crack at the back of the wood.

Weight is a bad thing.

If you can balance the bird by moving the engine forward, then thats what you should do and avoid adding any weight if possible.

You and Martin are both right. I will move the motor fwd vs adding dead weight and utilize the battery for CG placement for 3D flight.
