Default IMAC contest in Calgary this summer!

Hello everyone. I'm Gordon Wilhelm and I have been involved with IMAC style flying for the last couple of years. I attended my first event in Kelowna last summer and I'm hooked! After some discussions with Chris Hammond who hosted his first event in Edmonton last fall I have decided that it is high time to get Calgary on the IMAC map.

ANNOUNCING: Calgary Scale Aerobatic Roundup July 5 & 6th at the CRAMS field in Calgary, Alberta (for field location see www.crams.ca )

This will be an introductary event with the emphasis on having fun and helping all interested pilots learn what IMAC is all about as well as having some friendly competition (we're not going to let Edmonton have all the fun!). We plan on running Basic, Sportsman and Intermediate classes over a two day period with trophies for first to third place in each class. This event is happening on the first weekend of the Calgary Stampede so its a great opportunity to come up with the family, fly for a couple of days and then party at the world famous Calgary Stampede! I know that this is happening at the same time as the US Nats but I'll bet that not everybody is going.

There is a rough (also my first attempt!) website up at www.calgaryimac.ca which has more information. Please contact me by phone or e-mail gvwilhelm@hotmail.com if you have questions or want to pre-register (please pre-register to help me with the planning!!) Accordng to Bruce this event will be showing up on the NW schedule shortly and we plan on running it according to the normal IMAC and NW region rules and procedures. We will probably be relaxed about noise testing but we can test your plane to see how you stack up against the strict letter of the law.

It would be great to have some of our friends from the US come up and help us kick off what I hope will become a great annual event!

Cheers!

That's great Gordon, I will do my best to get there, I have also never been to stampede so this is very exciting. This is the 4th event in western Canada this year, wow!

I am 99% sure I will be there. I also plan on hitting up some of chris's boot camps and such. As soon as I know for sure I will pre-register.

I am very excited that there are people in western canada who are willing to give IMAC a shot. A big thanks to the CD's of our western contests!

Green@3D

Its good to see that the interest in Alberta is growing! I am by no means an IMAC expert but since no one else was stepping forward to get a Calgary event going I thought that I could make it happen. Chris does a great job with the boot camps and he will be coming down to Calgary to help with our boot camp in June. Please check out the website at www.calgaryimac.ca for more info.

Yep - this is great news! Hopefully there will be another event in BC (too bad about the Trail one Stacy)... maybe Vernon? Harv - you guys need to get on Mike's back I know Russ is swampped with work.

I would love to have a 3rd one here in Alberta too. Maybe one int he early fall if our weather is looking good enough. If anyone outside of Calgary and Edmonton is willing to host one I am happy to CD/co-CD it with you.

What do you mean you took my first place trophy?? Have you ever considered that in the spirit of generosity and pity towards the young ones that in fact what happened was: I gave it to you Just Kidding! Its good to hear from you Harv! I often tell the story of the young whippersnapper who kicked my at the Kelowna IMAC!

I know that it is a long way to drive but maybe you can talk your family into making it part of your vacation (the Calgary Stampede is on at the same time)! With how you flew last year at your first IMAC event I bet that you will "own" sportsman this year! Try and let everyone out your way know about the Calgary event. I'll bet that I won't have to call any breaks for Peter this year!

Regards,
Gordon

the field is great. nice 700 ft runway
and a clubhouse with a fireplace to keep warm, and a big shed to park your planes under. and there us a big parking area so you can park your trailer or watever you wanna sleep in. but what i saw fromy uor trailer, theres plenty of room. and we also have a barbcue so you can cook your self some hotdogs or watever.
