Bad-ass Super Contributer!
![]() |
I have recently recieved the outlaw from Dan at Freestyle-rc and boy does it promise to be one hell of an awesome piece of kit!
I have gone for the orange scheme in this model, lovely covering and a brilliant hardware kit as usual from EF, taking in to account the forces that this model will be undergoing in the air, nice big, strong control horns as well as 4mm rods rather than the conventional smaller and thinner rod. Also included is the engine mount, tank and a few other little bits, including an ally skid to mount in order to stop the needle on the engine from being damaged during landing. Hardware included: ![]() First thing to do it to cut the slots for the fins both above the fuz and underneath: ![]() ![]() Once glued: ![]() Then glue the vertical fin in, (this will hold the rudder on as well): ![]() I used 30 minute epoxy for all of the cluing which is advisable considering the forces this will under go! I also choose to put 2 extra strengthening pieces in the fuz just for my own piece of mind, there are just triangular pieces again epoxyed in: ![]() Next glue the smaller piece of the vertical fin in, this glues to what becomes the hatch to access the inside of the fuz: ![]() ![]() I then mounted the rudder servo in place, I have chosen to go for Hitec HS635HB servos all round: ![]() Note the sturdy control horns: ![]() ![]() Throttle servo is next, use the supplied servo plat and scre the servo to this before it goes in to the fuz, I used a Hitec HS225MG mini for the throttle as a mini is advised as there is very little room for a std servo, I filed the screws down to sit flush with the plate and then glued the plate in to place in the fuz: ![]() ![]() The hole is drilled for the rod for the throttle and then the engine mount with the supplied screws and claw bolts already in place can be mounted, along with the metal skid: ![]() ![]() The hatch can be secured for the time being: ![]() And I have chosen to put the decals on at this stage as I am waiting for the servos and engine to complete the model: ![]() ![]() I will be using the West 36 engine on a pipe The servos are Hitec HS635HB on the elevons and rudder And a Hitec HS225MG mini on throttle Futaba 8Ch rx with an 1100mAh 6.0v battery. Hopefully I should be able to continue the build when the rest of the bits arrive!

There are two hatches on the bottom of the wing, the servos are mounted to the hatches and then the arms feed out of a slot cut in to the top on the wing, will post some pics when I carry on with the build and get the servos, hopefully later this week
cheers

Got the west engine and pipe now, and its all installed, its s nice tight fit, but atleast I know it aint coming out!
Got the rx in now as well, so the rest of the bits should be here tomorrow, only problem is, even when it is finished it is blowing a gale here so no miadens for me  you never know I might get lucky! (ever the optimist!)![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Add some epoxy/reinforcing to the firewall. Do it now, or do it after the engine comes loose.....
The "Skeg" mounted to the engine mount puts a lot of strain on the lightly glued firewall during landings.

Hi there! I was looking for a build thread on this plane as I'm just about to start building one. There is a plastic tube jutting into the part where the fuel tank would go and I was wondering what that was for. Is it to route the receiver aerial?
Many thanks, Jason. |

Yes that is for the antenna, unless you are on 2.4

Very grateful for the reply, thank you! I thought I might not get one, because this thread is from 2 years ago!
Does that tube exit somewhere, or is it designed to contain the antenna enclosed in the wing? (I don't see an exit hole for the other end of that tube, unless you're meant to find the hole and punch through the covering to open it up. |

The tube is internal and stays internal. No ant. exit point. It stays within the wing.
