Hello, I'm new to giant scale and I'm thinking about making this my frist. Could someone please make a list of everything needed to complete this plane. Should I go with the recomened servos or with the s9156 all around? Which prop is best? Thanks,
Mike |

Yes the stock wing tube weighs 2 pounds and the replacement carbon tube is 1 pound. I've attached a few pictures to show my setup. With the current arrangement it puts the cg at 5.75 inches which should be very close.

Here are some more pics. The quality of this plane is outstanding. Also notice I made the exit on the bottom of the cowl huge, I'm planning on a few torque roll gaggles and wanna keep the DA150 cool.

I would recommend a s9402 on throttle and 9 of the S9156 servos, they have a margin of safety against flutter. Other than that you'll need about 4 feet of fuel line, a fuel dot, fuel filter, receiver, batteries, switches, and extensions. The hardware pack is very complete and comes with a few spares. Lets not forget the 150cc size engine, standard mufflers, some sort of power system-redundant battery system, 3rd battery for ignition, engine kill set-up
My list: Plane $1000.00 DA-150 $1500.00, mufflers $165.00, 9- 9156 $1000.00, Optical ignition kill $60.00, Smart-fly 14mz expander with pin&flag switch+charge jacks $180.00, Fromeco badger switch for ign $30.00, 2 std Dig servos $60.00, I have not got bats yet. Fromeco Relions are back ordered but would cost: SmartFly turbo reg & ign reg $110.00, 2 5200 Relions & 1 2600 Relion(ign) $225.00 I will probably go with the Fromeco Iron Corps on this one. There A123 type bats. Last edited by Sevans16; 03-08-2008 at 09:23 PM. |

I decided not to do power distribution in this plane. The radio setup is similar to a 100cc plane. I will have the Fromeco regs and flightpower Li-poly 2500 2 cell batts until my Iron Core batts are delivered.
I noticed you were using 2 std servos? choke? I found using a very fast servo like the S9402, works exceptionally well on throttle. I also like the simplicity of manual choke linkage. I also forgot to add the Mejlik 30X12 prop. You will need to cut the spinner to make it fit. This is a great entry level plane that I feel will appeal to all due to low price, ease of assembly , completeness of the kit, and great quality. I hear alot of people dwelling on weight, I flew the prototype and it didn't feel heavy at all. Mark

It doesn't look like cans will be an easy install to me. The box that goes from the motor to the wing tube has a solid sheet on the bottom which is right where the cans would sit. More work than I am willing to do anyhow.
I am going with the SmartFly 14mz Expander as my Futaba FASST RX 6014FS (I am told is good for around 8 amp max) will not handle the load. So with 9 9156's I will easily exceed that. Plus it has the battery share built in. It isolates a bad battery. Yes I forgot the prop(need to get that on order) and I am running Futaba 3152's on the throttle and choke. |

What website is the best place to shop for this extra stuff? I'm going to buy the plane from towerhobbies, the engine and prop from desertaircraft, most of that other stuff is from smartfly. What about the fuel stuff? It looks like tower just carries mostly nitro? Thanks,
Mike |

It's a gasser so you just need a fuel can, fuel dot, a good 2 stroke oil, and a way to mix it right. I use something that's like a measuring cup called Ratio Rite. They're available at any motorcycle or atv shop. I recommend going to jerseymodeler.com for the fuel can. He also has fuel dots.

NOOB info: Some Giant Scale shops I use are Don's Hobby in KS. I have also bought some stuff from AirWild in CA, Fromeco, Smart-Fly
Tower has the tygon fuel line. DA has the fuel dots. The gas carbs have some little passages so be sure and use some good filters to supply clean fuel. Last edited by Sevans16; 03-09-2008 at 04:05 PM. |
