Scott, You are pumped about this Plane! I hope it exceeds your expectations. I have a DA-50 waiting for a Plane and every time I see your Posts and Avatar, I think this Carden is the one! Ward |

Well, I've known Dennis and Carolyn for a number of years and have done alot of business with them, I know his designs are first rate. I made a point to spend a fair amount of time talking with him at Toledo about the two prototypes and it is a well designed plane. Yes it's a foam and cross brace design, it is built like a tank but plenty light for it's size. Just the ticket for knocking around and hard 3D that I want and not have to worry about ripping a wing off on a full throttle inverted pass down the flight line.... Yes I'm stoked...!!!!!

Your lhs stocks planes of this size? lucky! Biggest aerobatic plane in my LHS is a showtime 90 lol. I have to order in virtually everything.

Built like a tank might be a nice change of pace. My 33% Extra 260 worries me just handling it lol.

My guess is you get a cut on shipping costs by having your LHS order it in from Horizon on their normal weekly order, otherwise you can have it delivered direct. Scott |

I,m thinking that this could be the perfect marriage of modern ARF lightening methods along side the robust design of the Carden line of aircraft. Its going to be great, I,m sure of it!Dave |

First Giant
Hi Guys, I'm new to gas planes and have decided on giant scale to get my feet wet. After several months of exhausting research I've settled on the H9/Carden 89 YAK and put one on reserve from my LHS. I do keep second guessing myself and wonder if I should tone it down and start out with something a little smaller like a .90 or 100. But I do prefer to stick with 2stroke gas and not mess around with nitro. I've been flying all electric for a few years and feel that I've reached the singularity on the economics of electric flight. I don't want to make the same mistake with gas as I (Still do) with electrics which has been buy planes, fly them a couple times and move on, as these giants do cost a little more. I do have a 40 YAK and love it; it’s my favorite 3D so I figure out of all the YAKs this seems like the best balance between cost, readiness and size. So my question is; for an intermediate RC'er who is looking to jump into gas, is this Giant size Carden YAK a good candidate? Thanks |

VPG,
50cc class is a perfect place to jump into the gas world. The cost of materials, size for transporting and the intimidation factor all are doable when moving up from glow. There are a multitude of choices of planes to choose from in this class, the Yak is a favored one by many. Of those, in my opinion, the Carden design is the best design when it comes to strength and style over any other kits or ARF's. Also, an ARF will get you in the air much quicker than a build up unless that's not important and you like to build. I believe this new Hanger9/Carden ARF is worth waiting for no matter how long it takes to get here. Find something cheep and easy to fly until it gets here...!!!! ![]() Scott Last edited by Scott Gerber; 05-06-2008 at 09:18 AM. |

If I can offer a bit of advice to you guys coming from electrics(I flew glow for years but now only have electrics and gassers).
Vibration. Get used to it and plan for it accordingly. Electrics over the years can make a man lazy when maintaining an airplane because of so much less vibration. When you go to gas, use locktite on EVERYTHING metal to metal, and check everything over every few flights. Even the wood joints and such. Vibration will tear your airframe apart over time if you are not inspecting your airplane properly. Again, I don't want to make it sound that bad, because it isn't if you properly maintain the airplane, but if you just fly and fly and fly and fly without checking everything very often, then eventually the vibration will cause something bad to happen! My 55" extra 300(electric) has well over 50 flights on it and I don't think I have even had a screw attempt to come loose or even had a wood joint weaken. My 96" extra with a da-85 on the front has had several of both. Nothing major or wrong with the airframe, you just have to make sure you catch it before it is a problem. Enough said! Welcome to gassers and giant scale planes, you'll love them! After flying a giant scale planes, the little ones just don't have the same fun factor anymore .
