Default DA85 on pipe! Results please.

Hello,

Know that the DA85s are all broken in, what are your results on a pipe with 27" props?

Looking forward to your responses,

I thought he asked about a PIPE, not a CAN. There is a difference.

Thanks for the info.

So now that ChrisB has set an example of replying to the question , anyone else have some results?

Chris, any other info on header, header length etc?
Also was that the Mej 28x10th or regular?
What octane/oil mix?

I know that this engine on a pipe will be rediculous, I would wait for the greeve da 170 pipe though, should kick ass. But if ks has a pipe for the engine they seem to get insane top end

Yes, nice that when you jump to the 42% you can just keep the pipe for the DA170 if you sell the DA85.

The total header length from engine manifold to the first baffle in the pipe should of been 850mm idealy, but the plane crashed before we could get any real adjusting of header length (Check your wing bolts!). The header was custom made using a MTW header kit, Ian Howard and Mick Dakers (The guys who built/owned the plane) silver soldered it themselves to get the ideal drop and wraparound.

Chris,

What was the power and response like throughout the range? Some guys think that only top end improves with a pipe. What are your feelings on this?

Hey Sprice, all my planes I fly are on tuned pipes including my freestyle model (in my avater). I have found that once you get the header length and prop combination right then they can transition extremely smoothly. When the 85 was on a pipe it started out with a very long header and was shortened bit by bit to get the right transition. Unfortunately the plane went in before we could get it jurt right. Flying with tuned pipes takes a little bit of getting used to but it is well worth it. Especialy when you get the huge performance increase with the 85.

Hey Shaun... I'll give you a shout to discuss (Still have your PM on RCCanada).

Here is a link to some recent testing on my DA85 (results are about 10 posts down) --> with JTEC High Volume muffler and KS1090 Pipe... the DA85 comes alive on the 1090 and produces way more power than a DA100 !!

I think when this engine is fully broken in, a 28x10 will be too small !!

Cheers

Trevor
