No mix on it - you are talking about a change in the throttle curve - right? Just a linear throttle. We were talking about that yesterday at the field and I need to throw a tach on it and look at stick position vs. rpm and fly a few times... Throttle linkage geometry is spot on for great resolution so it "feels" great right now...

henna what do you think about building a tunnel to shield inside of plane from heat. was thinking of putting a 85 in a carden 330 with a pipe if i can get it light enough, all thought my da100 turns a menz 27/ 10 at6600, so the 85 would most likely be good

Henna - if you like the way it feels leve it alone

I prefer a curve though to soften up the throttle around hover.

Anychance of posting some pics of your throttle and choke setup? Also, did you use the long or short choke arm? Long arm is adjustable but has that huge hole in it.

Nice Video!

Knifelander -
I've had had 3 planes with cans now and each one has had a tunnel. On the 35% Extra - I had to build one up and dice up some formers in the process. So far - really happy with it and it's keeping heat out of the fuse and also focusing cooling air along the pipe.

Shaun -
I have just over a gallon on the motor so haven't had time to really dial in the throttle curve (or it hasn't been the priority yet). I'll end up doing it for the reasons you mentioned - it seems that a linear throttle curve doesn't always match the RPM's and from 1/2 throttle and below the PRM change per click is much more significant than above 1/2 throttle. I used the smaller arm (on the throttle linkage side) and here are some pics. I have some screws holding both servo mounts to the motor box so they don't vibrate off...

Another thing - the 85 spits quite a bit back out of the carb so you may look at a way of blocking it so the inside of the fuse isn't covered in fuel... I got it all the way back to my tank. If you don't have the hole in the motor box like I do - it's a non issue...

Hi guys, I am Sprices flying buddy here on the island. I know he is almost completed his install as we are going to put the birds up this Saturday. I have just completed the install of my AMT 105 on a ZDZ RVJ super 80. What I was wondering was if you have bored holes in the fire wall to allow air to run through the fuse and exit out the exhaust outlet at the rear of the fuse. ( for cooling) or is the exhaust outlet hole used specifically to allow the heat buildup to escape the fuse without the need for cool air coming in from the firewall?. I thought it would make more sence to keep any and all holes closed at the fire wall ( short of the hole for the carb) so the fuse does not get filled with an over abundance of air that could cause some wierd drum type effects. Any thoughts? Rule of thumbs here?

Thanks guys,,
HL

I have a hole in the firewall 2/3 size of the canister tunnel entrace. My exit hole is about 130% size to allow for expansion. My thoughts here are that if the cannister tunnel entrance isn't a problem for cans which have small exit holes, then there shouldn't be an issue with mine at all.

I think the other issue is how much air is actually coming into the cowl i.e. if you have large openings in the cowl, naturally more air is going to try flow throught the fuse.

I guess we'll find out tomorrow Mark. If mine blows up like a balloon (because you always make me fly first) then you are safe lol. I think your setup looks nice and clean, but opening up the firewall a little couldn't hurt for cooling.

Back to taxes....

Make sure you guys post up your results - I'm extremely pleased with the power of this 85 on my 35% Extra!

Can't wait. Tomorrow is going to be 16C, about 8C warmer than it has been lately!

Today was a great day!! Ran the DA85 today with a Mej 28x10 - and WOW - I am a believer in Chris B's RPM on the 28x10 for sure. I was running the 28x10 and on my tach I had 6400-6450 on a warm motor. I need to get another tach on it to make sure mine is correct, but wow - 2 gallons and it's only getting better. I haven't really toyed with the tune much but it's feeling pretty good.

The 28x10 had spooled up a bit slower than the 27x10th, but it did not feel sluggish either. For 3D I probably prefer the 27x10th (fast spooling, plenty of thrust, better response) - but the 28x10 is really growing on me. Downline braking is better on the 28 and waaay quieter. I was ripping the 27x10th on the ground and the 28 is much quieter. The pipe noise has changed as a result of the load change in props and has quieted it down a tad. It would cackle on the 27x10th where the 28x10 is much better. I'm flying it across a larger throttle range now where the 27x10th was 1/4 to 1/2 throttle all the time.

Sweet!!

Henna_ojisan, I took a quick glance back and couldn't find if you ever posted your weight. Have you had a chance to measure the weight of the plane and if so what did you come up with?

My scale crapped out on me and I need to see if a buddy can bring his to the field, haven't had a chance to weight it yet and have a new scale on order already..
