I was testing it on a stand so it's tough to tell still whether it will be peaky or not.

On the stand, I seemed like a pretty smooth powerband, but time will tell in the air. There was still very good throttle response between 3/4 and full throttle!!

Cheers

Taken from Trev's post to save you all some time!

Ok folks... Jim Daly and I did some serious testing with my DA85 today... all I can say is WOW - after only 7 tanks of 24 Oz of fuel (and still running 32:1) this engine on the KS1090 pipe puts out more power than a stock DA100 and is close to a 3W106CS.

Read on.....

Conditions today:
* Temperature = +2°C
* Partly Sunny with a nasty wind
* Max RPM was taken for a 6 second duration (don't want to overheat it!!)
* Tested on my engine stand
* Ignition battery is Fromeco 7.4V with Smartfly ignition regulator (5.2V)
* Fuel = 91 Octane with 32:1 Pennzoil Air Cooled Oil
* Tested JTEC Pitts High Volume and KS1090 Tuned Pipe with "?" Flex Header.
* Sound levels taken at 25 ft

Xoar 26x10 Sword:
Idle = 1520 rpm
JTEC High Volume Max = 6380 rpm @ 102 db (very loud)
KS1090 Max = 6780 rpm (exhaust quiet but insane prop ripping noise)

MenzS 27x10:
Idle = 1520 rpm
JTEC High Volume Max = 5950 rpm @ 94dB (but sounded quite loud)
KS1090 Max = 6580 rpm (still very loud - prop was ripping also)

Mejzlik 27x10 CF:
Idle = 1520 rpm
JTEC High Volume Max = 5910 rpm @ 96dB (but sounded quite loud)
KS1090 Max = 6610 rpm (loud prop noise, but not ripping)

Vess 28B:
Idle = 1420 rpm
JTEC High Volume Max = ?? rpm (too big of a prop for this exhaust)
KS1090 Max = 6310 rpm (nice and quiet - a bit of prop noise)

Mejzlik 28x10 CF:
Idle = 1340 rpm
JTEC High Volume Max = ?? rpm (too big of a prop for this exhaust)
KS1090 Max = 6520 rpm (very quiet - little prop noise - all exhaust sound)

Mejzlik 25x12 CF 3-Blade:
Idle = 1200 rpm (we had it down to 870rpm though!!!!)
JTEC High Volume Max = 5540 rpm @ 96 dB (all exhaust noise)
KS1090 Max = 5990 rpm (very quiet - little prop noise - all exhaust sound)

Anyone think a 28x12 Mejzlik may be required on pipe?!?

Just a Hangar9 tach.... To confirm, we also checked a couple of the RPM's with a second tach and they were bang on!

Those numbers are are understandable
Do not think tho -that yo need to keep adding more prop - 27x10 regular mejzlic is "bout right". adding more prop- will likely kill power - add heat and increase chance for steppy midtange . The right prop wil always end up sounding off in level flight -Somewhere around 6500 on the MEJZLIC 27x10 std not one of the thin ones - sounds like a well setup combo -as long as transition is good and top end is tad rich--this part is trickyfor some to get right and you can overheat an engine
My ZDZJ on the big pipes runs in same ball park - you will find that if this runs a bit cranky -- try a 26x12 - slightly less load. It is all a compromise setup.

I believe ChrisB (post 6) and TrevB (post 17 + 19) where both running 28x10 std Mejzliks.

Seems like this is the way to a great power setup that is always lighter than a DA100 or 3W 106 setup.

Trevor was telling me that his DA85 starts and runs just as reliably as his DA100. I am super happy about this.

Also I really value Trevors input as he has experience with a ZDZ80 on pipe, 3W 80xi, 3W106CS, DA100, and DA85 all very recently.

Excuse me while I order a DA 85 with a side pipe.

What pipes are yall using. I have Da-85 with Jtec large volume exhaust. It is currently turning a mejzilk 26*10. Would getting a mej 27*10 or 27*10th be a good choice for IMAC and 3d? Or would it just be a good idea to stick with the mej 26*10. The motor has about 3 gallons thru it. What yall think?
