Did you ever try 1 turn on the low? That is where mine has been since I adjusted it after the first run. Runs flawlessly.

Shaun,
I was thinking about that the other day when I posted the needle settings and I can't say that I have. Transition low to high is great and idle is rock solid with no real burble. I have a Hitec 5965 servo on the throttle (a bit of overkill) and it is really fast at .10 sec at 6v. With that speed I've not been able to bog the engine going quickly from low to high and the response has been incredibly crisp. I hesitate to fix something that isn't broken - it runs too well to touch it

I agree. Man, swiching to DA and not having to deal with startup and tuning issues at the field is priceless.

I am running a DA85 with a KS1090 pipe in a QQ Python, and the combination is amazing. Tons of power, and it is very linear. I am having a problem with the teflon coupler between the header and the pipe leaking and spewing oil all over my pipe and pipe tunnel. I have tried heating the coupler up with a heat gun and then putting the clamps back on it to get the clamps to dig in better, but that did not help. Can I run stainless hose clamps on it? Will that maybe help? It is making a huge mess of my pipe tunnel, and I have never had a coupler leak like this. Thanks a lot.

Mine does not leak at all - it took a bit for it to seat, but the heat gun usually helps. Have you tried another coupler and replaced the leaky one? Can't say on the hose clamps - with the vibration I'd think they'd come loose and need to be safety wired to stay tight - not sure... Just don't know what I'd safety wire it to... Is it leaking on the header side or on the pipe side?

It is leaking on the pipe side. I have not tried replacing the coupler yet, I guess it could be defective, but it is all brand new. I guess I will call DA and see what they have to say about the coupler. I was thinking the same thing about the hose clamps coming loose. I will give DA a call tomorrow about that and my leaking base gasket. Thanks a lot.

Perhaps the leaking pipe is caused by the method you have used to mount the pipe i.e. vibration etc. I used the comfort mount and haven't had any problems. I just used the clamps that DA sent and haven't had any problems either. How far did you slide the coupler onto the pipe? I slid my coupler pretty far on the pipe (over the knurled strip) and over the bump on the header. Posting a pic might help solve the problem.

I have heard that Quique is using a new MTW pipe on the DA 85 and that it may be smoother and more linear than the 1090.
Anyone have any additional information on a new MTW option v the K&S? |

Hmmm I thought he was using Greeves?
All I know is mine is really linear across the power band. You would really have to try both in the same plane to know. The 1090 tachs 180rpm more than the greeves. Both seem to have excellent power, response and be linear. The 1090 is louder and a little heavier but tougher. I am sure the MTW would be great as well. Join the pipe club Pick a pipe and enjoy!

Feedback is that the MTW (in QQ's plane) turns a 28 x 10 a couple of hundred rpm higher than the 1090 and that it is extremly linear. There was a comment on the 170 thread that seemed to indicate a similar situation with the DA 170.
Sooooo we need to do a little digging and snooping around to try and find out more specifics. Anyone that talks to DA over the next few days should ask to see if they have any updates for us power hungry 3D freaks. Last edited by Ground Pounder; 09-05-2008 at 10:08 PM. |
