Just a general update and FYI.

Went to the Tucson Shoot Out last weekend and was able to confirm with DA that QQ was using the MTW RE-3 pipe in his 85 powered bipe prior to the crash a few weeks ago. QQ indicated that it had a linear response and better power than the 1090 (always a great debate amongst ourselves on this thread).

The DA stocking order has been shipped so they should have inventory in about a month. No real hard info at DA other than their stock feedback that pipes are peaky.

My 110“ EF Yak is on the way so I have ordered the 1090 for the time being and will wait to see what develops on the RE-3.

I am sure the RE3 would work well also.

I ran the MVVS 80cc engine on the RE3 pipe using a Mejzlik 24x10x3 prop. Got rpm slowly climbing up from 7050 to 7100 rpm (slightly rich mixture, but what is better, throttle response from each throttle setting was instant and the spool-up smooth.
Header length at 14"

Shawn have you tried any 3 blade props on your setup I have the same setup as you and was thinking of going with a 3 blade thinking 25X12?

What do you think.

Thanks
Eddy

Take a look at this thread. Bear in mind 'ddlstang' used the greeves pipe (gets approx 180rpm less on 2 blade then the KS1090) and he was running a 24x12 Mez 3 blade. I think a 25x12 would be good but more for IMAC then 3D due to the inertia. Let me know how it goes... the 1090 setup has heaps of power so it may be great for 3D too! What plane and weight?

Very interested in your results. Not much data available at this point. Please include elevation, temp and overall weather conditions along with the rpm information. That helps a lot with the base line data points.

I decided to go with the 1090 (for the time being) due to the slightly smaller diameter and a tight fit with the landing gear ply plate in my EF 110.

Great scheme on your bird.

Nick, im very interested in how your yak flies with the 85. I fly mine with the DA-100 on MTW-75 cans and wish it had more oomph sometimes. Im in the process of lightening it with li-ions & carbon wing tubes etc. I use it for IMAC only....Gene

hi gene,

im aiming for around the 24lb mark with this bird, a friend of mine who has the comp-arf 260 with a zdz 80 on the front is weighing 25lb wet ! so im optimistic, what with the word being the 85 on a tuned pipe (swinging 28x10) has as much power as the 100 so power to weight should be as good, wing loading should be impressive at this weight to !
have had to make a few mods to get the c of g right hence the battery tray above the engine, will be using x1 5955 tg per surface except rudder of course which will carry x2. i'll be running simple setup, 2 switches, 2 batt packs (nim's) and x1 rx and also a large emcotec cap.

will let you know soon

Make sure the header is long enough! Fit the plane to the header, do Not fit the header to the available space. A header length of about 14" or more (from piston face to TP inlet) may be the ticket.

Is the RE3 really fatter? My 1090 is like a softball bat!

Looks awesome. I would use the stock DA double bend flex header. The length is perfect for the big pipes and 28x10... it's proven. (see my video )

I would highly recommend going A123s. I run the same setup as you describe, but am switching to A123s for more power to the servos. Don;t get me wrong, it is fine and I KE loop on one rudder servo, but A123s will be better. I run 5 cell GP 2000s.

I am going to be trying a Xoar PJA 28x12 or PJE 28B on my setup next year to get the RPM and hopefully noise down. Running a 28x10 Mej now which is great, but I am hoping to get things down around 6200 static and believe the Xoar should load things up a little more. We will see.
