So RE3 = 60mm diameter and the KS1090 = 75mm

As this relates to this setup I will copy here as well from another thread I started.

"I need to load up my DA85 on KS1090 pipe. I am currently at approx 6600 rpm on Mej 28x10. A Vess 27B is at approx 6500 rpm.

I want to get down to around 6100 due to noise levels at one of the fields. I know my 28x10 Mej is way quieter than the 27B Vess event though the Mej spins higher rpm, but I am thinking if I get the RPM down enough this will change. I do not want to go 3 blade or larger diameter carbon due to prop weight.

I spoke with the Canadian Xoar dealer and he recommends trying the XOAR PJA 28x12 or a PJE 28B (3D prop) to achieve my objective. Does anyone have direct experience with these 2 props? I would like to know the relative loads and what I can expect. I am guessing that the XOAR PJA 28x12 will load up the engine more than the PJE 28B (likely about 10" pitch). "

I decided to order both the Xoar 28x12 (cut-down if necessary) and the Zoar 28B. I'll post the results next year when I give them a try. It will be interesting to see how the setup handles the load without me changing the pipe length.

DA will not warranty your engine if its piped too short so make sure you make necessary adjustments (which will be most likely required).

I have a 3 month old piped DA-100 that required service and I paid for it, never crashed, followed the instructions exactly, good oil, break in, etc...

That was a bit frustrating so I suggest you to lengthen the pipe before changing to larger props.

Thanks for the advice. I doubt I will come close to bogging it down with the kind of RPM I am achieving no and the largely unrestricted flow of the KS1090. Time will tell. I am only going to test this next year.

Im running the 85 with the Greeves pipe, power is awesome. Problem is that it is very peaky at 1/3 throttle, it just takes off. How do I smooth out the mid-range, longer header? Bigger prop??
Thanks

Also make sure the low speed needle isnt to rich, that will make it act peaky too.

Mine is low 1 turn, high 1.5 turn. What are your settings?
I am running a 28x10 Mej, what is your prop?

I have a curve set on my throttle which softens things up nicely from 1/3 - 1/2 throttle on the stick. Carb is 1/3 open at 1/2 throttle. Hope this helps.

Yeah, the sale that Aeroworks has going on now is a pretty good deal.
I had ordered the 50cc Extra 260 last week before I knew about the sale and they even called me back up and told me they were taking 20% off because they were starting up a sale. That is an awesome company to do that.

It should be here tomorrow according to UPS. I can't wait to get it finished and in the air.
I have a DA50 that is going in it and I am putting a Harris smoke pump in as well.

I believe you may have meant to post this in the Aeroworks sale thread:

Finished my EF 110 and got a few flights on it. The DA 85 with a 1090 turned 5650 using a Xoar 28 x 10. This was at sea level and about 60 degrees. Pretty poor results. The 85 already had 5 gallons through it using a Pitts.

Called DA and talked to Tony. I had a Mej 28 x 10 in stock so I decided to give it a try. Temp was 52 degrees. The 85 turned 6575.

Bottom line is the Mej sure makes this engine rip. Linear mid range and plenty of power.
