[quote=BoneDoc;683939]So then, we're back to

"If you're going to use cans on the 100, the go for 85 on 1090"

[\quote]

Not really.

The 100 on cans is heavier, but way quieter! The 85 would be lighter and more powerful.... ahhh lets get back to test results or the 85 on pipe. That's what this thread is really about.

So far have gone through 2!!

I suspect Its not the engine cracking the spinner.

How do you know that?

(BTW its not from over tightening the bolt)

This has happened on a friends Extra 260 Comp ARF as well, different plane, different setup, same engine!

I dont know that; if i knew it wasn't i wouldn't have used the words " I suspect". It could be many things and many of them are user error and only a few that are product issues. I cant think of a way that the engine could be a factor. Whats spinner are you cracking; size; cut; what prop are you putting in it? Are you using the same backplate that was with the first cracked spinner? have you checked to see if the back plate is cupping?

I had a true turn spinner that cracked in both openings but it was because the prop was to large for the opening.

I had a spinner backplate break 2 times on a ZDZ80 and the same spinner size and make was used for years by DA150 owners without issue.

Vibration breaks spinners and yes its likely to be related to the engine.

Nice! Any chance you can get a db reading on it? It must be nice and quiet. I am sure if you lengthened the pipe a little, you would have a little more torque and rpm. The KS instructions have the tuning length specs for various rpms.

Its stupid power the way it is. I will see if someone at the field has a DB meter to get it checked. I flew the heck out of it this weekend and I like the 3 blade setup the best so far.

Finally ordered my 85 with the 1090. About to order a prop and I'd love to avoid buying 2 $80 props, so is the consensus that the 28x10 Mej is the way to go for both break-in and for flying?

Yep - I started with a 27x10th Mej and the 28x10 is perfect. Sold the 27 shortly after I bought it and would do the 28 again for both without worrying about a thing...

Hello,

Been flying a DA-85 with Pitts bolted to a 33% AeroWorks 260. Noise has become an issue at our field, so I need to quite it down a little. Can someone tell me, will a tuned pipe quite this motor similar to a canister?

Reason for seeking a pipe vs a canister is potential to move up to a 35% plane.

What exact pipe or canister set up is tried and true for the 33% AeroWorks 260? (Header drop??) I would prefer not to use a flex header if possible.

Thanks - Jaketab

The 85 on pipe is quite a lot louder than a can and far more power; similar noise to a DA100 on stock muffs. Hard to compare the two.

Yes, the 28x10 Mej is the best all round prop for the setup. I got 6450 first run, so this is good for break in as well.
