Reason for seeking a pipe vs a canister is potential to move up to a 35% plane.

What exact pipe or canister set up is tried and true for the 33% AeroWorks 260? (Header drop??) I would prefer not to use a flex header if possible.

Thanks - Jaketab
Hey Jaketab, ive got the same plane and im using the da 85 with a mtw 110 cannister, cant remember the header drop but im using a flex header. If you were to use a pipe, you would have to do some work to the bottom, the tunnel is not long enough.

How about a Mej 26x12 on a 1090 piped 85? Anybody actually tried it?

I think Somenzini was using one on a piped DA100 in his python. Talk about throttle response!!

2 blade.
My piped Da100 turns slightly better than the typical 85-1090 combo so thats why I'm asking here as Id like to try the 26x12x2 on my 100.

IMO there is no way any 85 can spin a 26x12x3 at useable RPMs.

Usable ---
any of these engines need to be in the mid 6000 rpm range to get best internal flow (which is best power ) Call it the "best torque range" if you will.
Some engines have to spin a LOT faster to hit max torque
But until you get into larger engines - -look at about 6000 rpm as rock biottom static rpm for best overall performance .
On a well setup loong pipe the results you get on a Mejzlic 27x10 std 2 blade - are about all th load you can use -unless you have a 10 pound model which will let the engine unload .
So a 26x12x3 - MAY work --if you rework the blades to allow about - 6500 on th ground
the number of blades/ dia., mean nothing the load is the real concern
Having checked props with identical numbers printed on em and seen over 1000 rpm static rpm difference . I gave up trying to figure performance, based on the printed numbers . Too much horse pucky.

There are 2 at our field, 1 with a Greves pipe and Mejz. 27x10...very quiet 2 has a MTW 110 can and a Xoar 27x10 also pretty quiet. The 28" prop is why its loud, go down a size and it will change a little.
We think the 26x12 may load it up a bit too much, but try it, ya never know. It would be quieter but fast as all get out. We have a 26x12 on a 100 and I keep trying to get him to try it on the 85.

My 85 turns a 27x10 STD mejzlik at 6300 on a KS95 canister, great in flight perfomance on the 35% Wild Hare Sukhoi at 26lbs.

Wow, impressive figures on the DA 85 with tuned pipe.

2 small questions.

Is vibration an issue with a DA-85 vs DA-100?

Is the vertical performance comparable with DA-100 (stock mufflers) vs 85 on pipe?
Im assuming with the lighter motor on pipe would be comparable performance?!

The piped DA85 spins 6450rpm on a 28x10 Mej new, Around 6600 broken in. It is the same power and just a touch lighter than the new DA100 on stock muffs. Both are about the same for noise.

See my vid for performance on 6th run of motor...

Gentlemen,

My DA-85 is currently running with a Slimline Pitts. Noise at our field as become an issue.
Can anyone tell me, which - if any, tuned pipe combination would reduce the noise as compaired to the Pitts style muffler.

Thanks - Jaketab

JakeTab,
Anything will be quiter than the Slimline Pitts. Greeves and a 26x12 Mezlik is very mellow sound and pulls like mad. The diffrence between a full pipe and a standard can type muffler is night and day.
