The length worked out dead nuts perfect on the Laniar 87" Yak, I would have liked maybe 1/4" more, the prop clears the cowl by 1/8" now. Any shorter and the carb would have to be in a hole cut in the firewall, it's not much over a 3/8" away now, but that works on this plane because they have a 1" hole right behind the carb. A choice of maybe 3 lengths would be a nice option though.

Looking foward to you getting the engine Ralph. Larry SEND HIM the engine !!
It looked a little strange to me also. Thought maybe there were a set of numbers I missed.

So much really depends on the prop. Last year I was running a 22x8 3W prop on a DL-50, It was turning 7700, I tried a 22x8 TBM and it nocked my RPM's down to 6300. The austrailian video shows the guy taching the MT-57 at 7000 with a 24x8 He doesn't indicate what prop it was. After landing he made a comment that it could use a bigger prop.

Not to hijack th thread.. but are there any comparisons (thrust, RPM) of the major props out there? I've seen different performance from different brands in the same size prop, but I hate to buy "everything" to find the one that works for me.

Props are not perfect...The same props from the same manufacturer will vary...
I can run a G62 with a 22-10 Dynathrust and get 7400 rpm..
Same engine, 2 minutes later, MSC 22-10 prop, 6400 rpm...
Other brands are somewhere in between...
Now, I could say G62s will turn a 22-10 prop 7400...But I won't, it's not a number that means anything...Somewhere aroung 7000 is a good average number with most props..
Engine sellers will find the highest rpm prop they can so they can advertise their engines that way...
Horizon says the G26 turns a 16-8 prop 8900...My G26s with a Mejzlik 16-8 and no muffler will turn close to 10,000...It's all in the advertising...HP numbers are worthless, as is the ThrustHp program...It's on about 8 lbs high on the numbers for an 18-6 @ 9000...They say 25.8 lbs thrust..Actual measured at the tail wheel number is 17+.......Buyer Beware....
There was/is a website, rcfaq.com, that had numbers taken with various props and users..They vary all over......
I tested a new DL50 when they first came out....6700 rpm with the factory muffler, Xoar 23-8 prop...There are numbers out there as high as 7400..Different prop, different altitude, different fuel mix....I tested a new MT50, 22-8 Menz wood prop, 6800 rpm...Others have reported higher numbers..
The new MT57 should be here next week, will get tested with a 23-8 JXF, I broke the Xoar on my hand...Careless needle adjusting with a running engine...Screwdriver slipped, 8 stiches in my "birdie" finger.....Destroyed the prop..

OUCH.. I've been tempted to tune with the engine running, but so far have smartly resisted that temptation!Oh, by the way, did you mention to me in an earlier conversation that you could get an AN APC T-6 race prop for a G-62? I've been looking for one, but can't find it on APC's site, or anywhere else for that matter!

Yes...They're not advertised, but still made for us by APC...I think there's one here...It was made for the WCAR series, no longer around, but IS the same prop....
Address ??
I can get the current prop, just have to make a phone call....

MT 57 engines delayed,

Ok guys listen up. The shippment of the MT 57 engines have been delayed for one week. I just got word from Tomy Shen that because of a diesel shortage the DHL trucks did not get the engines to the airport. Thus they missed the flight . To add to the situation there is a natioal holiday in China and the cargo is not being sent until Monday. The one good thing is that it has cleared Customs and there should not be a delay in reaching me once it gets to the USA. I am very sorry for the delay but it is beyond my control. I will do whatever it takes once the engines arrive to get them shipped to those that have ordered and paid for them.

Did you get any thrust readings?

Can you throw a 22x8 on it, lots of guys over here use that as a baseline measuring point.

Rich

Here is a link to the video of the 57 running on a 22 x 8/10 and a 24 x 8
The 22 x 8 is not the best prop for the 57 the 50 will out rev the 57 on a 22 x 8 have a look here &feature=related
so if the 22 x 8 is your prop of choice I would suggest the 50 which is basicly a short stroke 57 with the carb on the side of the crankase instead of the rear as per the 57
