I have the new DA170, but you need to know that we lightened my airframe and got it down to 36lbs., so power is not an issue. But...IMO, I still think that if you take caution in how you assemble and choose your equipment, you can keep it fairly lighter than 44lbs. and it will be great w/the 170. Check out my thread and maybe you can use some info to help keep some of the weight gremlins out.

Hi MikeC3d
can you please tell me what are the modifications you did to lighten the airframe?
Thank you

how hard would it be to put tuned pipes on the 40% plane? The Ace website says it has a can/pipe tunnel but it doesn't look like it is long enough for pipes??

Hi Sevans16 , I don't know if tuned pipes would fit or not , but I thick you would be able to make a few changes and they should fit OK. I have a 3w 170 on my 40% tt toc and it is an excellen combination> I also have the 37.5% toc yak with a da 150 which flys like a bat out of hell, I love my yaks they are the greatest flying planes I have ever flown and I have flown a lot.
I have 3w canisters ( 16" long ) on my 40 % yak and there is still about 5 or 6" to the end of the tunnel. My yAK WEIGHT IN at 47lbs dry using my bathroom scales . This plane floats like a cub on landings. It is one of the easiest landing planes on the market.
hope this helps! You can see photos at the carolinaskydancers web site.

Everyone has there own Idea of power to weight ratio. I have a 40% with a 210 zdz at 46 lb. I would call it a nice combination but, I will be flying a new yak with same motor but will be lighter next year. My idea of power to weight ratio is tainted by the previous pride of the fleet a 35% yak with a 160 champ at 31 lb. I would call it a nice combination ( if you want to fly a plane that makes it's own wind) The only difference I see between you flying yours with a 170 da and me with a 210 is I may land a pimple faster, there both nice honest combinations( not silly) have fun with her Click image for larger version

Go to the TroyBuiltModels site and you'll find the manuals for all the TOC/Aviation/SD/TT/Pilot Yaks.
