BrimMa, That is one nice looking scheme. The color combination is awesome, very nice choice. Looking forward to seeing that bad boy in the air. Definately post some pics when you are done!
You, Xtra300, and Dan_no are making me want to take the plunge and get a 39%er to park next to my 33%. These Katana's are becoming easier to find at the field now. Last edited by Mr.E; 04-10-2008 at 04:58 PM. |

Thank you for the compliments. When it is finished I will definitely put the pics on here for you guys. It is certainly a nice bird. I'm looking forward to flying for IMAC this year. You might as well bite the bullet and get the 39%. Its expensive but totally worth it.

Your right Joe, Ive sat and thought, how am I going to do this, I look at your pics and I go back to work, then after I figure it all out and see what you have done, it all seems easy, its just time consuming on a lot of the stuff. And yea, the more you do it the easier it would be and get.

Joe, on the ailerons, looking at your pics and the way you laid that out for the control horn instalation, your messuring back 1/2 inch from the edge of the tapered flange right ?
In looking at the hinge line and measuring back, at the back edge underneath of that inside the aileron there is that former or whatever that runs across the front edge of the aileron inside, its about 3/16 of an inch thick and then you are to the inside of the aileron, when you cut your slots are you cutting into that on yours or are you ending up behind it ? |

Garrett,
Nice scheme, that's the same I have. How come you put the fuel and smoke oil dots so you have to remove the canopy to get to them?

DKjens, is that the stock landing gear that came with the plane ? Looks like yours sets up higher or something.

Joe, DJkens...did either of you have to drill your wheels due to the axle being bigger than the whole in the wheel ?

Dan,
The original gear that came with mine was very soft and delaminated in no time. I had a gear from a Comp-ARF 3.0m Extra that I cut to fit. The original gear did cost me a prop, there was abot -2" extra prop clearance he he. I used the stock tail gear for a little while, but first the wheel was shredded and later the mechanism didn't want to turn very well (likely dud to spending time flying off a dry lake bed). I know have a tail wheel assembly trom Troybuiltmodels mounted. The same with the original main wheels, swapped them for something better IMHO.

Hey Danny - yes - you have to drill the whole bigger to accomodate the wheel axle they provide - BUT - I recomend to use after market wheels to help get the stance a little higher....I use Du-Bro 4.5" wheels - Krill has replaced the older gear (thinner) with thicker gear...On three planes - I have had no issues.
A little trick that John G had mentioned to me - is to wick thin CA into the edges of the gear - then sand smooth again....not sure if it really helps or not...but again, no issues on three planes. That Tatoo scheme looks really nice!!
