Hey, go ahead and use it... After seeing the videos and the responses, including the debunking thread, I think only a fool would put it in a large or fast airplane without considering it very hard!!!
Is it better than 72? I don't know. On 72 you have the chance of someone turning on your frequency or some kind of out side interference. On xps, you have the chance of outside interference and no chance to get away from it (as it doesn't hop..), just like on 72 evidently. + on 72 everything pretty much seemed to work together. Occasionally out of the 1,000's of units you would run into a switch or regulator issue. With xps, he says the MAIN CAUSE OF ALL THE FAILURES are switch, regulator, li-ion, nicad, power supply or wet grass related which evidently, is a very high number... It seems that there's many more things to worry about with xps than with 72 unless you're only using a huge nimh pack going straight to the receiver. It seems funny that most of the things xps slams spektrum and fasst for are the very things that it suffers from (other than the gui which was extremely limited). xps says once again the main reason for people's loss is power supply etc etc. Can't the EXACT same thing be said for spektrum and fasst. That the main reason for people's loss is for power supply issues etc. The exact same thing. So xps is no better in that respect... Like everyone has mentioned, the alternatives however, give you a second chance, ie redundant frequencies to receive on instead on just 1.. Last edited by jonkoppisch; 06-18-2008 at 03:26 PM. |

I've now used spektrum and fasst to fly other planes on including a couple of jets.
What was the difference other than a successful flight vs a crash? (ps, many of the components are the exact ones that came out of my first flash to my 2nd flash including rebuilt turbine) The setup's were pretty much the same, except for my rookie which had a lot of no no's according to xps. Ie, regulator, li-ion battery, switch, etc. So what was the main deciding factor? I believe it was the frequency redundancy. If anything happened while I was flying, I now had a redundant frequency to rely on... Consequently, my jets are still flying. 2 now since the xps incident and a 37.5% yak as well.. This is just referring to the large/jet aircraft that I've flown since then. Not all of the smaller planes etc... |

Gents,
I have tried like buggery not to pick sides here and as has been stated a thousand times the tests were to see if XPS hops. Its advertised that it does, that was its main strength. It does not, no one can show that it does and there has been plenty of time for someone like me to go away and nut out a way to do it. But the name calling and downright slandering of individuals including the new owner in this thread just makes me puke. Have you seen anything change here? Do you know why we sold the site? Have you seen anyone come in here and re arrange the furniture? None, nothing NADA!!!!! The one major change was to hire a full time guardian for the site (SleepyC) who just so happens to be from the very original moderator crew, a super talented graphics guy and so darned in love with this site, what it can do and where we want to take it that it will make your head spin. Jim purchased us to make us bigger and better and broader. We are not RCU, they cater for a different crew and do a darned good job of it. We cater for what we have today and aim at what we want for tomorrow. But nowhere in our desires for the site is the back biting and in fighting that this thread is turning into. FG is alive and well, Max done an unbelievable job bringing us to where we are, Steve is on a roll to take us the next step. Rather than waste wind and time bitching here how about you turn this thread around or let it die maybe and get over onto some thing that we and you enjoy. Guys this is a hobby, there is junk and non performing stuff all over the place. Is XPS the end of the world? NO, its not and most anyone who is investing large chunks of cash in the hobby knows what the good points are and bad points. From that point on its a personal choice thing. I feel like its time to pull the plug if this does not get civil and sensible again. I'm not from the fun police, I'm very tolerant at what I let fly here but guys tone it down and enjoy each others company for whatever it's worth. Sharing and learning is a virtue, pissing and fighting and personalizing things just does not warrant the effort. Last edited by Kiwi; 06-18-2008 at 09:49 PM. |

Oh yeah... I got a death threat last night from an anonymous XPS fan. Someone's gone right off the deep end.

Maybe you aren't familiar with the person who's doing the name calling and such. He's been banned from all the other major RC websites on and off for years (I say on and off because he was banned for a while at RCU and then began posting there again. I quit visiting that site and don't know if he currently has posting privedges or not). I see his remarks warrant no action here, so I imagine we'll continue to be blessed with his unique perspective for some time. He's on permanent ban from RCG so I imagine that's where his affinity for Jim Bourke comes from.

Sweetpea...since it was not XPS's fault, why did they buy you a new airplane?

I'm glad you did your tests, but it just proved what others knew for quite some time, that there are endemic, systemic problems with XPS. Notice this, too...that all your efforts don't really mean a thing, in that your results are currently being "debunked" by Jim and his flock. I don't really lose any sleep over XPS, though...those who would still buy it and use it, at this point, well, that's tough love for them when they lose their planes... Here's a helpful suggestion: fold up a black garbage bag tightly, and insert it into the aft fuselage of your model, it will make crash recovery much easier after you crash your XPS-equipped plane. You don't have to walk back to the car to get a trash bag for the pieces, you can just walk right to the crash site, remove the bag from its compartment(unless it ejected on its own) and bag up the wreckage, easy-peasy! I charge nothing for that helpful tip, consider it a free gift, given with love to all... |

I bought a brand new Airplane with my Mastercard. Had they bought me a new plane I would have replaced the Aeroworks and not bought the cheaper (in price) Wildhare. But again, this is only the 5th time I've told you directly that. How can I be any more clear?

I think this thread is getting too personal. Close it down.

I think we need to get away from personal attacks... I've been on the receiving end of that because of this!!!!
I like this thread being open as kind of a general xps thread instead of having a dozen different threads to go to and pollute everything!!! |
