There is useful info buried in this thread. I'm hoping civility can prevail and this thing remains open until the testing in Europe is completed and the results are released. Those tests will hopefully be a truly definitive overview of how the XPS system operates. It would be nice to discuss that here and keep things consolidated.

I agree.....if it can be kept to XPS updates whether they be good or bad. Leave your feelings about why a person shouldn't fly something to yourselves. Let the person choose with facts on their own and if they chose differently than you respect that decision. (not directed at you Jon if it read that way).

On the XPS note: the telemetry (laptop version) and satellites are supposed to be out by the end of June. Its getting close and I'm interested in seeing how it works and of what use it is to optimize the position of receiver(s) in the planes. I'd be comparing it to what Spektrum currently does with the data logger. I've found that to be one handy tool. Works great for those updrafts where I swear I got a radio hit and the logger says NO...its just you, you idiot.

OK. You guys win! I recently bought a JR X9303 2.4 radio and R921 receivers to replace XPS in my three planes. I was using my old trusty 9C w/ the XPS module.

I really like the ease of programming on the X9303 and binding the receiver and radio is simple. The flight logger module is awsome.

I HOPE EVERYONE IS HAPPY NOW!

P.S. Anyone want to buy some used XPS equipment?

What testing is that? And who would care?

Look, it's so simple...if the system hopped, Kiwi's simple test would have shown it.
It's been definitive for quite some time, that this system is no safer than the Assan module, which costs half, and is advertised properly as suitable for park flyer types only.

Einstein said "Insanity is repeating the same thing over and over and expecting that the results will be different."

No point whatsoever in further testing. This dog don't hunt.

Easytiger,

I actually lean towards your argument and also hate closing down threads as they drop off the radar and get lost in the maze of data in the back-room. So this one is staying open but I will take the liberty of deleting any more posts that say XX is a jerk for buying it, ZZ is a dumb ass for saying what he said etc.

Lets leave it for the moment and run with what we have. I too am very interested in what the European boys come up with. They at least have asked for a consumer report on the function and whether or not it proves anything different does not really matter. It's good just to see what is happening.

So guys back in your corners, no more scratching and biting or hitting below the belt. Let the next round begin :-)

Delete as you see fit...know that I, personally, am not bothered by that in the slightest...you are not deleting it because you have some commercial interest in XPS.
There are quite a few people who have indeed been working for XPS all along.
I don't think anyone is a jerk for buying XPS, I have never said such a thing.
Keep this in mind, though...Jim and his crew have never thought twice about insulting, lying, reporting, censoring, dogpiling, whatever, on those who dared to doubt the Mighty Circle Of Sperical Radiation.
The whole objective is to make as much money as possible from our hobby, then split. Like he did with other businesses. I feel no particular need to kid glove these people, they are still doing the same MO, and still taking money from uninformed modellers, and whatever Jim gets in the end, he deserves.
This is not some "difference of opinion", a "discussion", it's a scam, plain and simple, and the guy lies, plain and simple. So I'd just as soon call a spade a spade, and not cadge the true nature of the situation with niceties.

Who cares about everyone..........are you happy? If you prefer the switch-- great, its your plane. I won't judge you no matter which system you fly.....even if it was orange.

Easy tiger,

Dont misunderstand my motives. I dont want to delete anything, thats the point.

But I do draw the line at anyone being demeaned as unintelligent, a moron etc and those comments were coming close to the top of the barrel.

Guys I'm not here to be the freaking policeman. Just go for it but with respect please.

Kiwi, no worries...and, again, if you do feel a need to delete something I say, I certainly won't lose any sleep over it.
Crazy stuff, though, huh? You take the time to run a test. You find out rather definitively that it will not hop. Yet, Jim explains it away. And now you need to wait for the EUROPEAN tests. Obviously, you lack the European sang-froid or je ne sais quois or panache in order to do PROPER testing, so we need to vait for Chermans to do PRECISION teszding. Or the Italians...oh, wait, XPS does not work in Italy AT ALL! I think the French should do it. Oh, wait, remember those guys in France who lost their helis with XPS? And it was blamed on some mysterious radar system? Then they went to Spektrum and all was well. So, France is out, it does not work in France, either. Best to wait for the Germans. Oh, wait, the Graupner test pilot got a lockout, with no failsafe, while flying his Graupner-sponsored three turbine airliner, and it went out of control and crashed into a busy road...so it does not work in Germany, either.
Hmmm....looks to me to be well tested in Europe already...

When bruff came back on and started slamming, I started thinking a little about what he claimed. About taking off on 1 frequency and then landing and seeing that he's on another one.

If we actually got the truth about xps changing frequency solely for the reason of increasing the range and that it has to be under the circumstances of the extremely slow rise in noise etc, then it appears that bruff was flying in an area prone to noise strong enough for xps to act upon.

Now it might have changed this time, but knowing that it takes a very very specific event to make xps hop, it seems extremely likely that the noise could vary and be higher and not fit the criteria one day that he's flying and completely block that channel for xps...

Knowing that noise is around would actually make me even more nervous!!!!

I think that bruff was lucky and the rest of us were simply locked out..

Lighten up, Sweetpea! I was just joking! Seriously, I did buy the JR system to replace XPS. I was just trying to lighten up this thread. Everyone is getting so huffy.

I think we can all agree that 2.4 is a giant leap improvement over FM.

P.S. Please change your avatar. It's giving me bad dreams!

1st----I won't change my avatar till something worse comes along!!!!

2nd I apologize if I sounded anything other than helpful. I just wanted to say it shouldn't matter what system you or anyone else chooses to fly. We all just want to fly and have fun. Plus I'm already light enough.....I only weigh a buck fifty, wet!

Also I liked Kiwi's tests.....they showed what Xjet would only talk to but couldn't show! Bravo again. I'd like to see what kind of test the Euro's do.....maybe it'll be something different or maybe more of the same and maybe it'll be more Hi-tech equipment?????

More testing is always good.....sometimes from testing the same thing over again you can see why something isn't working not just that it doesn't.

Guys, I do believe XPS can hop. Just look at the design principle: The Receiver has to tell the TX that he can't hear him well. Obviously, this can only work if there's still *some* form of (degraded) contact. In that respect, JD's most recent statements are probably true - only his most recent ones, though.

Also, i believe FMT magazine in europe is doing "the big test" in their next issue, due out in mid-july. That's gonna be interesting to observe, since Graupner is a very important advertising customer to them...
