The Race to 2.4, one year later. Time For a Poll!

Some of you may remember the 2.4ghz coverage we did last year here on FlyingGiants.com. Through some miraculous course of events, we ended up getting some awesome exclusives on a flood of amazing new products from Spektrum and Futaba, and we even pulled off the first successful consumer tests in giant scale. With the onslaught of news this past year on FG, it should come as no secret that we're HUGE fanboy's of this technology.

In the past months of 2007 we've see many new innovations come from both Red and Orange in form of transmitter retrofit modules, and a whole pile of new native transmitters, and receiver systems. Airtronics now has a 2.4 system, and all of the radio manufacturers are falling in line although it's been a bumpy road at times as products have matured. Third party systems have come market, and every camp's frequency methodology is slightly different. From the first time we all met the DX6 2.4 back in November of 05, it was destiny that this technology was bound to take the modeling world by storm.

So here we are a few years into the 2.4 game, and it seems like 2007 was the year where mass adoption kicked in, and the technology has gone mainstream and version 1.0 apprehensions have diminished. 72mhz is obviously still alive and well, and while it's probably an unknown even by the biggest distributors what the adoption rate is, but we know it's gotta be huge.

So today, we throw a poll out there for our members.

So the question is, have you made the jump to 2.4ghz?

I sold my 14mz and 12FG. I'm now using a 9303 2.4Ghz radio with a 12X on order.

Well I'm flying 2.4 on my slabs (using the cheapest 2.4GHz system on the market -- the iMax 9X at $150 for transmitter and receiver with satellite but I'm sticking with 72MHz for my other birds.

I've got a lot of planes and the cost of moving them all to 2.4GHz using a really good 2.4GHz system such as FASST or Spektrum is just too expensive.

I've never had a hint of trouble on 72MHz and since we have over 100 different legal frequencies here in NZ frequency clashes in our club are a non-event. I therefore see no reason to shift to 2.4GHz just for the sake of it.

I've fully transitioned to 2.4, well, as soon as my 9303 gets here. I flew Futaba for 10 years, but they aren't cutting in the midrange radios, and I have no band loyalty. Go Team Orange. but Spektrum made the radio with the features that I wanted.

50 is right ive flown futaba for 6 years and on wensday ill be getting my 9303 and 2 ar9100s then 2 more free so ill be almost totally converted. i think futaba dropped the ball on their midline radios

been flying w/ the DX-7 and AR7000's, great combo, hopefully one day will upgrade to the new 9303 2.4ghz system

I have been flying JR 9XV2 and a Futaba ZAP9 WC2 in 2007. And I want to switch to 2.4 but there are many regulations about the maxium power etc around here. The JR DSX9 is still not here. I really need my new tx very soon. I'm a BIG BIG fan of JR ... but I guess I'll need to go with a Futaba 12FG 2.4 ... we will see how it works out.

Wouldn't the poll be a little more informative if it included a "I have stayed with 72" option? Not hating, as I have switched fully and proudly use my 9303 2.4 system.

Need one more option. Still happy with 72 meg. At this time I have no reason to need to update my radio. Maybe in a few more years, but not now.
