Looks like this year tax returns are already spent. I have both the Extra 260 and the edge 540, I gotta say these are some of the best flying planes i have ever flown!

I don't think 40-42lbs on this bird is going to matter honestly. It'll still come in at about 32oz per sqft for wingloading , and with the shear size of this thing , it's going to float like a leaf with a briggs and stratton motor ducted taped to it. Ron , i don't know if you have seen one of these birds yet , but you could take that 37.5% yak and just about put the entire fuse inside the sukhoi fuse. It honestly makes the yak look like a 35%. I'll probably start building mine towards later winter , early spring , but i have to finish a few other's first.Thinking of a DA-170 or possibly a 3W 170 for power on canisters. I have four other airframes which are begging to get in the air as well. If the money stays good , i'll be building all winter hopefully.

Thanks Su for the weight report. 38 lb would fly better than 42lb.. 4lbs is 10% less weight.

Jeffro,
Yep yur right. It will handle the weight no problem. Well for 3D anyway. I think though when I see things like 38 lbs on a wing area of 2850+ squares I have to question it. It is very very very dififcult to get a plane to 38 lbs with that kind of wing area. Now with that said - I do believe the plane is an honest 42 lb plane this make sense and is right on the mark. IMHO For comparisons sake my 37.5% yak is 42 lbs and a few ozs. now jeff has scene me hover this thing and hairrier it and do rolling harriers and such. The vert punch isnt anything to write home about but its a like flying a big foamy!! Its a bifg bunch of fun and thats what is most important here. So what is the real issue here - it may not be the best IMAC plane. I think it will do OK for sportsman thru intermediate. But I don't it would make a good unlimited machine-IMHO.. But man for 1399 I think.. Its a smokin deal especially with wingbags and the killer hardware package that comes with it!!! I just tried to go to Airwild hobbies and their website is down... I hope everything is OK!!! I may need to get some of their killer servo arms and a new Seiko servo... I would really like to someone's video of this thing in action from a normal joe blow pilot like myself!! Ronster Last edited by rdgood; 10-02-2008 at 01:53 AM. |

To all those that have flown the plane where is your CG located? I am ready to maiden mine on Friday but wanted to get some real world setups on the CG. I am about 3/4 of an inch behibd the recommendd 215mm. If 215mm is a starting point then I am not concerned. if 215mm is the 3d CG than an extra 3/4" might be a little to aft.
Any input would be appreciated |

hey Kevin....if you do get the maiden in this next friday , will you report back here or over on DOD with the results? I got this suk about a week or so ago , and won't have it going until next summer , but it would be nice to hear from someone else about the way she flies.

OK -- brace yourselves. I have this plane in my garage in a crate...couldnt resist the offer from Airwild. And I have a Jeti SPIN 300 and I have a Hacker A200, and I have a 15 cell 10000mah lipo battery setup...
I am thinking that my winter project will be the first electric version of this plane....unless somebody has already done it....in which case I would like to compare notes on the build... dan |

mine will be ready to maiden by next sunday....not this sunday, i wish! but by next sunday she'll be airborn. if you get yours in the air let me know how she handled. i talked with matthew szueber (spelling?) about this plane as he and his brother were the ones to do the video for Jerry and he said it was awesome with a da 150 on pipes. he also said that the stock settings for the cg were right on and the plane did not have to have a cg move to 3D well! i have a 3W 157 on mine so i am sure i will like the power as opposed to the da 150!
any news will be good news! thanks, matt
