No I didn't. Talked to a lot of people at the time that didn't either. It may have made the box a bit more rigid to resist twisting but doesn't attach to the firewall.

It will make a huge difference in how twist-resistant the box is. It doesn't really need to go to the firewall to be efficient. But without it, all of the twist motion goes right into where you had your failure.

I'm sure anders e will be glad to hear that. He had his on and had the same failure. Trust me, the angle wasn't strong enough for its intended purpose, about .030" thick.

Well sounds to me like AL knows what he is doing and the metal is just plain junk. My firewall is to thin to pin as well. Unfotunately! I have the same junk metal AL does and am now worried to put it in the air. I aam not going to get what I want for material and stell is to heavy.
SO with no pins, not the correct metals, and a zdz80; how does onw stop this from killing their plane? This is not the first time I have heard of this either. Just never payed much attention because it did not really concern me at the time.

I have the 33% Aviation Models Yak and same thing happened to mine. Mine actually broke on one side right when I touched down on my final. I immediately killed the engine and checked it out. Same bracket as the Aviation Models Extra broke on mine. I think everyone should replace them with a stronger angle bracket or pin the firewall. Have not had a problem since. Great planes beyond that issue.

I went to the LHS and got some 1/8" thick aluminum angle and replaced mine. I will inspect it from time to time but don't expect anymore problems.
