All wire is not created equal. Keep in mind that electron flow tends to happen on the surface of the conductor. This means that the more strands in the wire the better, as a rule. The other thing about wire, is that the insulation that is on it can make it easier to work with and route. It will effect the flexibility of the wire as well. Silicone insulation is more pliable.
As you have likely guessed by now, the better wire is not the least costly.

Get to using too heavy a gauge of wire and you will start running into difficulty when you are trying to feed it into the servo connectors. Being one who makes my own custom extensions... my experience is that anything over 22awg servo wire becomes difficult, the servo connectors out there just do not have very big openings where the wire enters and it must full enter to get the pins fully seated.
I may consider doing more soldering and maybe look for some alternative to the stock Futaba and JR plugs.
