I have been an engine man for almost thirty years and I am sure many of you love the sights, sounds and smells of them as much as I do.
This thread is dedicated to video and sound files of any type of engine you can think of. Here are a couple to start with. Wright 3350 - Rare Bear A decent sound/movie with the Pratt Whitney 4360 Wasp Major P&W 2800's in an Invader &feature=related Have fun!

Rare Bear with the three bladed prop made the most distinct sound ever!!! It used cut down P-3 blades. The current prop was on loan to Tom Dwelle. I think he retired Critical Mass and four blade (Skyraider) prop found it's way back to Rare Bear.
I have a few hours in a 3350 powered Skyraider. Taxiing the Skyraider with the wings folded was incredible, the sounds bouncing around off the wings! Only used about 50 inches of manifold pressure with 100LL. I currently spend about 40 hours a year flying a Pratt R-985, another nice engine. Last edited by N726AC; 03-26-2008 at 08:06 PM. Colonel,
Have you been to the Reno Air Races??? My favorite is Voodoo - But I also like the Rare Bear! Gotta love the engines!!! My kids just look at me and shake their heads... they just say why don't ya just put a jet on it??? They will never understand - its quite sad really.... Brian brought this sick Sea Furry with him to Dayton last year and put on a great show.

The Bristol Centaurus engine puts out a lot of low frequency noise, but you also hear a lot of pops, whistles and bangs.

Rare Bear is great, no doubt....like a low rolling thunder across the Reno Stead valley. DAGO RED (the plane that Rare Bear found hard to touch), is more unique. Listen to the doppler effect of Dago comin at ya! (btw, the laps get faster toward the end).
Come back Dago Red, we miss you!
