Default Flying Giant of a different type

Here's a project I've been working on for the last couple months, just got it completed yesterday. It's a 4M (157") semi-scale Discus glider that I got off eBay for a very good price. They still sell these on eBay if anyone is interested. It comes as a pure slope/aerotow glider but wanting to be self sufficient, I added an Axi 4120/18 motor with 6S lipo power. I also added a retract for fun and to avoid belly landing a 10 pound machine all the time. Lots of work needed on this cheapie to get it flight ready but I'm looking forward to getting it in the air. Weather permitting I'm hoping to fly it in the next couple days but that's a big IF on the weather.

Thanks! Finally got around to my Extra today as well, my 15 minute battery replacement project turned into 2 hours of other minor stuff that needed to be done on it but it is ready for summer now! The 2008 fleet is finally shaping up.

Thanks T! Where do I get rainbow vinyl stickers for it, and do you think that the chick in my avatar would be up for what Fick was talking about? I know her myspace page, maybe I could ask her.

Got the maiden in today! Just a couple short flights in some cold, breezy conditions before the rain and snow came in, but I was pretty excited to see this project fly before I go out on a week-long trip. So far it seems to fly well, the wind was pushing it around a bit today and there was no lift, but I think it has potential. It was a new experience for me to see those 4 meter wings flapping like they were, but it did handle pretty well. The spoilers are very, very effective - each time I deployed them on my landing approach, I ended up needing power to get to the runway. Power was definitely not lacking with the Axi 4120, as the glider climbed well at a 60 degree angle. Not hotliner vertical, but for a 157" 10 pound machine, I was impressed. Looking forward to getting it back in the air on a nicer day! Not an every day flyer for me but it'll be fun to bring out from time to time. Well worth the effort to get it flying.

Cool! We've got one of those here that needs to get finished up. Thanks for the kick in the ass to get it done! I also plan on putting an e-setup in the nose for power - it just doesn't make sense to do anything else anymore, especially since I already have the packs I need.
