Well... if you want good vertical performance.. like 3 or 4 snaps on an upline for example.. you will need to be under 38 pounds dry.
A ZN-Line is in my opinion the best in this size/weight. The new Great Planes 38% Extra is not as big... but with the DA150 has ballistic vertical performance. And it is assemble'able in about 18 to 22 hours... with the CG at about 7.5 inches aft of the leading edge at the tip, it is still smooth and will 3D like a mad man! The ZN-Line is a bit bigger.. so it will be a little smoother... but the GP is available at $999.99 street price!! And fantastic hardware and very complete... even has wheels and spinner! http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...tml#post426241 Last edited by Mithrandir; 04-02-2008 at 07:20 PM. |

ZN Line Extra!!
I got to watch one fly against just about every other plane in the book this past weekend and hands down it beat everything. Nothing flew as slow while maintaining full control and nothing matched the control response at any speed. It oozes precision. Mith's GP Extra looked and flew quite nicely as well and quite a bit less expensive. Ask him about the top of his rudder and the inverted harrier.... |

ZN Line Extras are through DA. Here
http://www.desertaircraft.com/page.p...ZNLineAircraft For you people calling Airwild's "Yak" Please watch the first two seconds of that video you posted and read those big letters........SUKHOI.....it's their 40% SU-29. Best planes that fly all fly great: Cardens (Good flying plane, but it's a Kit) Wildhare Extra 300 (Good plane, Great Price) ZN Line's Extra <----Sweet but expensive and not fun to repair. I'm partial to the Wildhare because I own one, but I've flown Comp-Arfs, Cardens, ZN Line Extra. Once you get to this level of plane it is the pilot and the setup that makes the plane fly good NOT the plane. You could give Kyle Woyshnis a box of sticks and he could still fly the wings off of it, and then turn around and let Joe Shmoe fly it like crap. This comes with lots of practice and just "having it". You either got "it" or you don't. I say go with whatever design of plane you like instead of brand (Edge, Extra 300, 260, 330, Yak 55M, 54, Giles, whatever......) - Parker |

I have only flown 4 different 40% planes...
Compy SX World Models 42% Ultimate GP 38% Extra ZN-Line. The SX is the easiest to fly. The Ulti is...well... Chip Hyde wins inspite of the Ulti.. not because (IMHO lol) GP 38% Extra.. WOW! Ferrari.. Testosterone!! BAng Bang Bang!!! Super Nimble! ZN-Line... Extremely precise, well behaved. a plane that has enabled me to expand my envelope because I know it will behave predictably. (Other then the Ulti), I like all three GS planes for different reasons. And... I know someone with a ZN-Line kit for sale.. under $1500.00... NIB!!! |

You guys are all making great points here and opening my mind to things I have not thought of.
I do not have the time for a kit so the Cardens and ZN lines of planes are out. That is ok when I seen 2500 for the ZN. Don't think my skills are there yet for the cost of completing this plane. I have heard many good things about all of them. But the GP 38% keeps sticking out. Good price, everyone likes it's flight characteristics, and the finish is good quality. With a DA 150 it should hold it's own on vertical performance It is only a grand, 1600 less than the ZN. That is a brand new DA 150 as well. The parts support should be good in the event od a crash and not pricey either. I think my mind is made up. I am going to wait another season before I go really high end and try to compete. Just not ready. I need to move south and fly all year. Was pretty nice when I lived in Benning Georgia. If I could only afford what I can now.

That 38% GP Extra does the coolest blow-overs.. I;m thinkng maybe more end over end than Blow-over.. Kind of funny to watch such a large plane flip like a foamie..

I have no problem waiting till the weekend is over. Now I am very curious as to what 40%er will be unveiled. Going to have to be a lot like the GP38 extra to change my mind. That plane just seems to suit exactly what I want out of my plane.
