OK.. one modification I made after the first few flights was to get the CG back to the aft indicated position. The batts mounted by the tank result in a forward CG.. safe, but the true 3D capability of this model can not be realized at the forward CG...
I moved my two 4000 mah Li-Ions back about 30 inches. I added a cross member and a Battery tray.. the pictures pretty much show the whole deal... just make sure if you do this, the tray is secure.. If the tray comes loose, the batteries will unplug and/or beat the inside of the plane to death! |

I will try to get some video this weekend.. I will demonstrate the SLOW Flight characteristics in particular as several have speculated the plane is too heavy... NOT!!! And I will show lots of slow controlled flight as well as some faster snappy stuff....

Mine came in nose heavy also with the rudder servos mounted in the tail. I need to make some extensions to move the batteries further back.

Thanks for the excellent build thread Mike, I know how time consuming it is to have to stop and snap photos during a build.
I witnessed a couple of these planes fly out in Fresno and I have to say that the slow flight characteristics are dynamite. Of course, Mike is the king of the "low and slow". |

OK, lets have some weights. If it is a little nose heavy my 106cs may work. I have seen that the canopy section is rather heavy on a friends setup, go with a carbon tube and a few more modes, maybe 32lbs is possible.

Started working on my 330S again....
Got a dumb question regarding the rudder tiller.......where the heck is it supposed to be mounted? I see the pictures but can't really judge how far back it should be from the leading edge of the rudder so any help on this would be most appreciated. Oh and one other thing.....has anyone else had trouble getting the wing dowels to fit into the fuselage sides when sliding the wings onto the wing tube? I cannot get a wing to go on unless I pull the tube all the way back out, line up the wing dowels into the fuse side and then slide the wing tube into the wing. Of course this only works for one side, so I can't get the second wing lined up and installed. Thanks for your help, Bill |

I have been so impressed with this bird. I had the big CAP580 and it was an awsome airplane. I love the fact that it comes with a spinner and rudder tray is a really nice addition too. I've heard some people say it is very small but in all truth I really cant tell by watching it fly that its any smaller. And really its only 4" smaller than my 40%extra. To me saving 300-600$ and getting a nicely equiped arf is a great way to go. I plan on getting on of these real soon.

This weekend, I tried to really test out the structure on mine.. about 10 Laps WOFT on a Warbird race course.. (She will turn very tightly!!!) and a couple Blenders and I gotta say.. this plane winds up in a Knife Edge spin like none I have ever had. This plane oughta be called a 38% SEG!!!! (***** Eating Grin lol ) After every flight.. I just have a Dopey Ear to ear grin on my face.... Criminally fun plane!!! |

Well.. full Disclosure... I am fortunate to have the privelge of being part of TEAM FUTABA and FUTABA is distributed by the same company that owns Great Planes...
But... I also have a reputation and my integrity is at stake... if I thought this plane was a Box of Monkey Butts... I would shut up and ask Max to delete the thread after the second post!!! lol I am saying it is extremely complete... and just a hoot to fly! I have left my ZN-Line and Super Extra at home the past two weekends to fly this plane! It does not fly as smooth and precise as my ZN-Line... but it is more fun in many ways.. it is just so nimble and throws around great! I dragged the rudder with this plane for two reasons... the plane is maneuverable enuff to do it, and if I messed up, A new Prop, Canopy, Cowl and rudder... and away I go!!! Oh Yeah.... the ZN-Line KIT from DA is $2400.00, my SX from Comp-Arf is $3000, the GP Extra from LHS or tower hobbies is $1000.00.... That there is a pretty compelling reason to fly one of these! Really.. Tygon Tubing, Zip Ties and Foam pad for the Rx... That is all you need!!! Everything else is included. (Well... OK.. CA and Epoxy too I guess) |
