I am sorry I can not yet answer weight... Under 37 pounds for mine based on comparison to other plane that is a bit over 37 pounds.. (Vertical performance and accelleration)... Mine is Bone Stock.. no mods to save weight.. I read somewhere that one person changed the Tank, Wheels, Carbon Wing tube, Milled out some from the canopy/Hatch with a 3W 157 and got the weight under 36 pounds.

Here is another Low Reso Vid.. this flight is at 3000 feet msl... clearly the plane is NOT ill handling...

I won't hack your build thread anymore, I appologize. Just wanted to know what these were coming in at in reference to wing loading..If you get a chance it would be nice to know, regard's Buzz

My apologies, your presence is welcome. I do not own the plane, but am a fan of extras. There is more to a plane than wing loading. It seems to perform the way he prefers.

Okay quick question here..

Went to put together the servo arms today....I'm using all 5955's plus a Seiko servo for the rudder.

Tried to use the normal white round servo arms but the bottom piece that goes through the aluminum contol arm was to small in diameter so it would float around off center. Then checked out those "useless" red cross servo arms....much, much tighter fit, actually used a vise to press it into the aluminum control arm, but only two sides make full contact with the aluminum control arm, the other two are raised up.

Anyone out there using 5955's and what was your solution?

Bill, I used 5955's and SWB 1.5 arms for my ailerons , Hanger 9 Titanium Pro Links (3") with H9 10/32 swivel clevis horns, H9 4x40 HD ball links. I did not like the slop in the stock linkage, and did not want the horn coming out on the top side.

Went with the SWB servo tray and 2 8711's for the rudder, Same setup as My 40% Cap, works perfect.

Why don't you come out this sunday, be at the Harrison field all day, Bring something BIG to fly.

Dave,

Thanks for the input...........I'd be all over that invite if I wasn't going to be sitting on an airplane heading to Portland OR at 8:00 am on Sunday morning. I'll be back Tuesday of the week after so I may give you a shout to come and check your 330S out.

I'm using a single Seiko servo on the rudder and will likely replace the stock fuel tank with a 64 oz B&B tank. Wish there was room for a smoker tank/pump but don't want to try and shoehorn everything in.

I just picked up mine from local hobby store. It took only a week to get it. Open up the boxes
in the store make sure there is no damage, all OK.
At home took everything out the boxes. I am very impressed. Nice color scheme, nicely build and no
wrinkles. Cowling is carbon fiber and super light. If the planes flies as well as it looks I'll be happy.

You may have the first one of these to top 40 lbs! Bill, you may want to rethink some of your equipment choices. The seiko is very heavy and the B&B tank weighs over 1 lb by itself.

Mine is 35.5lbs with a 3W 170cs. CF tube, changed the tires to TBM, Dual A123s, EQ10 and 8711s all the way around. Did ditch the stock 50oz fuel tank in favor of a 40oz that saved 2oz there plus the reduction in flying weight.

Mark,

Understand about the weight concerns and appreciate any and all advice on keeping it down. I just don't care for DuBro, or Sullivan tanks and the "brass tube" setups required, that's why I like the B&B style of tank. What's the smallest tank size one should think about using with a DA150?

I have an 40 oz tank feeding a 3W150, timer set at 17 min and land with 15oz fuel in the tank, at 12 min I was landing with a half tank, going to reset the timer for 20 min and leave it there, thats a long time to be up and most of the time I land before the timer

I would think an 30 oz tank would be just the ticket, just do your own testing with flight times say 10 min to start and see what you end up with.

Mark is dead on, that seiko is old school and heavy, the 8711 combo with SWB has all the grunt anyone needs.

If you like, come out and fly the Cap, 37 lbs and change and then tell me why you think you need that Seiko, the extra battey and switch ( NOT )

You can use other options for tanks and set up the stopper any way you want, but I agree, the B&B tanks are TANKS!!! Various water/soda/juice bottles can also be used - it's a very popular practice in Europe and other eastern countries. They also tend to be lighter than even Dubro tanks.
As for the capacity, I guess it depends on how long you intend to fly and what types of flying you intend to do. If you're going to be doing mostly low, easy 3D and some hovering for about 10 minutes, then a 40 ounce tank will work. If you intend to fly IMAC, and compete, you need enough fuel to get through two sequences, and that usually requires at least a 50 ounce tank.
You have t think of this more like a 100cc plane, but with a 150 engine, and equip it accordingly. I know that Mith and Mark are enjoying theirs at their weight, but I'd be willing to bet that they wouldn't want the plane to be much heavier...
Save that Seiko for a bigger, heavier plane.

I wouldn't run smaller than 50 oz but that's me. I hate running out of fuel at the worst time possible. Those are some very impressive numbers Dave, but I'm lucky to have 8oz left after 12 minutes.

Copy that, haven't ran one dry yet, but I have seen it and it's never at a good time.

My 3W 75 is the same way, sips the fuel. I have a 40oz thank for it, timer at 17min and land with just about 1/2 tank.

Getting very close to a maiden on the Extra, kinda put it aside for the MM26/DA85.
They came 4 days apart, took the MM26 over to Al Smith's hanger and four of us pulled a gangbang on it, knocked it out quick.
will try and talk Al into another gangbang on the Extra and get it going, I have a 3W 150 on it, if she is a sipper to I will go with a smaller tank and save the wgt.
I have the CF wing tube, changed the wheels, machined the back plate on the spinner, dumped all the servo arms and links for titanium, two 8711 on rudder instead of three, no match box or power box, plastic hatch screws top and bottom,no choke servo.

More excited about how light I can get her than the maiden (lol)
Can't remember if Al said you are coming up in Aug, If you are I would gladly turn her over to you for a thrashing and opinion

Take care

Dave
