Does anyone know the recommeded CG for the Great Planes 25% Yak 54 with a DA 50 mounted on the nose, and three servos for the tail.

Regardless of the engine used, the recommended CG location will stay the same. A quick look at the manual states the CG should be at 5 1/8" or 130mm from the leading edge of the wing at the fuselage. The range is -1/2" to +1/2" It has been reported that the recommended CG location is nose heavy. Acticipate moving aft. I flew an inch or more behind recommended.

The airframe flies best with the CG over the wing tube--approx 5-7/8"

How is your landing gear holding up? Mine seems to be very weak, I'm thinking of finding so carbon gear to keep from having prop strikes on the mejzlik prop. I would actual like to find a carbon gear that is maybe and inch taller than the stock gear.

I did install the Graphtec LG. It is exactly as you want. An inch taller and a lot stronger.

Mechanic,
I went with the Fuji 43 EI-2. I like gas engines and I found it for a really good deal. GP recommends this setup as tried and true for the gasoline route. I went with as light a setup as possible. Hitec 5925's in the ailerons/elevators and a single Hitec 5955 for the rudder. Dual output 2300 mAh A123's for the Rx and an 1100 VPX pack for ignition. Carbon prop, spinner & landing gear. Thought about the carbon wingtube but haven't bought it yet. Have the Graphtec carbon tail gear but it's heavier than the stock one, so I didn't install it. 13 lbs even..... Pactra Lexan Window Tint to black out the canoppy.....

Check out the DL-50 or 3MM TOC. I would not recommend the fuji 43. Had the fuji 46 and did not like the performance. It was best for constant speed flying. Put the rudder servos in the tail and batteries in the rearmost position and CG will not be an issue.

So what is your CG then 6 1/4" I have a DL 50 in the nose and I thought I would have to put stuff in the tail to get the CG right on. But now I am now moving the batteries forward and placed 3/8" stand-offs on the engine to moving the CG from 7 1/4 where I started to 162mm or 6 3/8 is now I think this is a little to far aftstill, what does everyone think? Also I am using a Vess 23/A prop, am I going to hit the ground with this big bad boy? |

I swung a 22x8 without any problems. As far as your CG, it is pilot discrestion. I like to fly tail heavy. Play with the CG until you are happy.

I have not owned one but have heard they fly well but with a DL 50 as far as stong pullout you should have a rocket. You might need to really watch your weights to try to keep it light.
