As you all know the Comp ARF Extra has wing spars instead of a wing tube. The kit comes with wood to cover the spars inside the fuse, acting as a phenolic so to speak. I have seen people that use them and people that don't. Are they really necessary?

Hi vic, I think you will find that the only reason you would use the timber to box in the spars is when using canisters so as to protect the spars from the heat.

The spar box also acts to strengthen the fuse and give you a good spot for your fuel and smoke tank tray to sit on.
